Lots of water!
Water retention and drinking water is a funny thing. You'd think drinking water when you're already retaining water would just cause you to retain even more. In fact, the opposite is true. Drinking more water will get the water in your body moving. I've experienced this first hand many times, lol. Just be prepared to run to the potty every half hour or hour!
Drink more water and consume less salt. I retain water like the Hoover Dam from time to time. When I'm miserable (like my wedding ring won't come off and my feet are so swollen my shoes won't fit), I'll mix a tablespoon of vinegar in a cup of water and chug it.
When my grandma was retaining water like crazy, she wasn't allowed to drink water.
That's all I've got.
Her sodium blood level was probably low. If she drank a lot of water, it would flush the sodium out and make it go lower - very dangerous.
I really don't remember all the details, but the doctors were telling her not to drink water. And she complained about it the whole time. She was not in the hospital or anything. Just at home.
