If cheaper girls clothing manufacturers/retailers made/sold non-fug dresses for kids over size 5. I need a nice dress for N to attend 2 weddings in the next 2 weekends, and I have tried: Kohl's, Marshall's, Target, Old Navy, and Nordstrom Rack. Everywhere was rucched (I know I spelled that incorrectly) polyester/spandex, lace, glitter, and glitter tulle (usually all 4 on every dress) as far as the eye could see. I don't want to spend $$$ on a J&J dress, and I KNOW cute dresses are out there.
I'm going to try Gap and Gymboree next (don't have time to order online, because I thought I'd find SOMETHING, so I waited until kind of the last minute..oops), but I'm just so irritated that apparently once you hit age 5-6, you don't get cute little pleated dresses any more, and must instead wear black and/or hot pink glitter polyester.

I'll probably suck it up, head to the mall, get the kid a dress and be done with it, I'm just pist seeing all these cute 2T and 3T dresses, and then completely the opposite in a few sizes up. Boo.

i was just at penny's yesterday and didn't see any. Ditto for Sears in the Lands End section. TONS of cute clothes otherwise, just nothing dressy enough.
No carter's nearby, and the places that do stock carters only had it up to size 4 or 5. I need a 6. I'll definitely hit up Macy's tonight during my mall run. Thanks!
I agree with you. When my girls hit 5/6 it was horrible trying to find Christmas dresses or anything dressy that was halfway appropriate. Little girls, not twenty somethings. We had good luck with Costco believe it or not. They have Christmas dresses out right now and you might be able to score. I think Macy's I was able to find an appropriate Easter Dress.
Designers really need to keep little girls in mind, and not treat them as a mini me of a twenty something. I don't want to see shoulders, bellys, writing on the butt, chains, rouching, etc..
I know what you mean. I have a younger cousin and I used to be able to buy such cute things for her, then she got a little older and it's all really tacky stuff.
I know you're on a time crunch, but what about ebay? There's a lot of new with tags stuff for much less than full price.
Also, check Saks and Bloomingdales (online selection is usually better). There's a lot of expensive stuff, but they also have a good deal of stuff that's marked down. Bloomingdales is having their F&F now too.
It doesn't help that it is impossible to find something you like when you really need it. I hate that! I hope you can find something without having to spend too much $$

I totally should have looked at Nordstrom when I was there on Friday. I didn't because I thought that one of, you know, the SEVEN other places I've since looked would have something. *sigh* It is 45 minutes away, and there's no way I can make it there in the next few days.
Those are both very cute, and I'm actually hoping Gymboree has one in her size. I'm not opposed to sparkle. I'm opposed to this level of sparkle/style:
which my store seemed to stock exclusively. Funny enough, there are some cute dresses online at kohl's, just not in stores. Lesson learned, stick to online shopping and start earlier.
Damn. I just checked. My mom and I buy sizes ahead at garage sales. Biggest I have is a 5 though. It's kind of a green funky flowered dress. Let me know if u want pics of it.
I don't think my only size 5 is dressy enough and might not be big enough.
There was a department store in the bigger mall by you that I wonder if they have something. The mall that has pea in the pod.
I bet you could look at online styles and then call and check stock?
Ugh I was hoping I had a cute dressy one in her size. I was hair at a garage sale w/ bigger sizes the other week that had some cute Nordstrom ones. (Tags on, still wanted $20 so I didnt buy)
Thanks anyways tdk! I'm going to definitely check the "fancy" store by me on my trip, so fingers crossed that I find something.
I hope so! While the gymbo nearer your old house (yrs ago) has bigger selection, there's one right by my house if you want to come visit!! or I could pick up and meet you somewhere.
