I've had pain in my left eye all weekend but shrugged it off as post partum hormone/vision stuff, despite some of you telling me not to be so lackadaisical.
Well this morning I woke up with a horizontal blurry line across the middle of my eye. Call the eye doc to get an appointment for Wednesday, when I have someone who can watch the baby. I explain what I'm experiencing, the urge me to come in today. Call H, he gets another coach to cover his class so he can bring me and watch the baby.
You guys were right. It's something neurological. I have to go to a specialist. My vessels( nerves?) in my left eye are swollen so they're not communicating with my brain.
OMG. My mind is going some awful places. My baby is 3 months. What if I never get to see him grow up (literally or worse!)?

Is it optic neuritis? I am sorry you are dealing with this. If this is what it is, you will be fine. You will get to see your baby grow up. I know it's scary, but you will be ok. ::hugs::

I have no idea. I see a neurological ophthalmologist on Friday, unless the stuff my optometrist sent warrants an emergency visit earlier in the week.

It sounds like optic neuritis. I could be totally wrong, but it usually occurs in one eye, but can be both. You get pain, and blurry vision. I have had it twice, and yes it is neurological in nature, in my case, it is related to my MS. The typical treatment are steroids to take care of the inflammation.
I will keep you in my thoughts, and best of luck! Please update us and let us know how you are doing.

Just googled. Symptoms sound very similar. Don't know if this is relevant, but my paternal grandmother has pretty severe MS (Wikipedia made a connection between the two).

Yes, it is the swelling of the optic nerve. The neuro will ask you that, because there is a link, and genetics do play a role. Keep in mind that just because you have a bout with optic neuritis, it doesn't mean that you necessarily have MS. They most likely will look into this though, because it is very common.
I know it is scary, but honestly you will be fine. I have had severe optic neuritis, and my vision is totally fine now. I do know it is scary. Have you had any other symptoms? The first time I had optic neuritis, I had no idea I even had MS, so I wasn't even connecting symptoms.

Oh, and for the record I brushed mine off, because I assumed it was bad contacts. It's easy to do. The important thing now, is that you are pursuing it.

No other symptoms that I've noticed. I'm tired, but I also have a newborn. I seriously chalked this up to needing to update my prescription until this morning when the blurry line showed up.
ETA: Thank you for explaining what you know about it. It at least makes me feel a little prepared at least. I appreciate it.

I had something very similar happen when I was 5 months pp after my first. I saw a neuro- ophthalmologist who diagnosed (don't be skeered now) a stroke. In fact it was only my vision that was affected, and I do still have a small blind spot right smack in the middle of my visual field. For about 5 years after it happened they checked me annually, but it's been close to 10 years since I've had it tested. Well, maybe I've had one visual field test in the last decade. It never went away but it never got worse, either.
i do also get visual aura migraines, but I think they told me they weren't related.
it's been a while (that 5-month-old is now a senior in high school) but I recall the testing for it including mri's, ct scans, and something I want to call an angiogram, but I dont think that's right, because that's a heart thing. But something like that which included injecting dye into my blood system and looking at the blood vessels in the eyeball.
It took maybe 2 months to get through all the testing and get a diagnosis. Good luck!
