Funding parts of the government. So I guess they are going to now pick and choose who gets to get paid. You know, instead of just PASSING THE FUCKnG BILL
This is the dumbest thing ever. Well, maybe not dumber than just passing a clean continuing resolution last night to avoid the immense costs of a govt. shutdown.
"Some conservatives led by GOP Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas have called for such a strategy, which would force opponents to vote against authorizing spending for popular programs such as veterans affairs.
Under the scenario described by Cruz, the piecemeal spending plan would be a way to defund Obamacare on a step-by-step basis."

I don't even know what to say.
Me either, which is why I couldn't add any commentary. Just unbelievable. And embarrassing.
Last night, Piers was like, so uh, Republicans...your party is a mess and please tell me how you think the 2016 election is going to go for you all?
Well wasn't that their strategy with sequestration? EVERYONE SUFFERS! and then piecemeal exemptions were awarded to their favorite agencies (god forbid air traffic controller cuts cause delays and disrupt their precious weekends) and before we knew it, it was just POOR PEOPLE SUFFER!
Let's shut the entire government down and then just restore the parts we like. Nice.

I just can't understand what their endgame is here. The republicans were already starting to lose their base as the religious right began to take over, and all of this is just going to divide their party more deeply, and lose more supporters. They're (please God) going to lose re-election bids over this. It's not going to prevent the ACA from coming into effect, and regardless of its funding status, it's a LAW that this does nothing to repeal. What are they going for?

You know what someone needs to do in Congress? Pass a bill that becomes a law that prevents this bullshittery from happening. How is it FUCKING POSSIBLE that because of a GOP temper tantrum over a LAW that IS GOING to go into effect, regardless of said tantrum, the government can be shut down?
My only solace is the Repubes are so thoroughly fucking themselves with our generation that they will pay for this for decades to come.

I don't know, based on some of the things I have read and sadly, people I have blocked today on my FB, they think these guys are heroes.
One thing the Republican media machine has been very skilled at over the last three decades is duping the very people their policies destroy. Hundreds of thousands of voters believe their rhetoric, as detrimental as it is to their socioeconomic strata.
And then of course there are the millions of Americans who haven't read a proper news article in about a year, and are all like "Gosh, they just all need to compromise" without having any fucking clue.

I forwarded this pdf to my co-workers. You officially have made my day. lol

I was listening to NPR this afternoon - it was the BBC Newshour program and they were interviewing American govt SME's about this bullshit.
It was hysterical - the opponents ended up all agreeing and the host the asks if Congress still gets paid and I swear there was a full 5 second pause before someone said "Yes". Followed by another 5 second pause while the host probably went on mute to laugh at this ridiculousness.
One of my very dear (Republican) friends is going with the "we all need to compromise" angle. Her H (whom I actually adore) posted something along the lines of "well, the sun is still going to rise and set today". I replied back with something about how I'll remind my children of that when they're hungry and I have no money to buy them food. I am seriously incensed that anyone can stand by this non sense.
