I cheered for the band (not real cheers, but after they played each time, we cheered for them) since I had more friends in the band than the football team.
I did in middle school (not sure if that counts?). In elementary school 3 of my friends and I would do the "cheer camp" put on by the high school cheerleaders. It was 2-3 days of teaching us basic cheers, dances, and stunts.
In jr high/high school I did marching band. We tended to "cheer" along with the cheerleaders when we couldn't play.

No, I tried out but didn't make the team. I am so un-peppy that despite the fact I was a gymnast and could tumble better than most everyone else I still got cut.
Yes, but then I switched to the pom team. One girl from the cheer team called me Judas for a year.
I don't know the difference between cheer and pom.
ALL POPULAR SAME.
Cheerleaders were at all of the games. Poms only performed at home games.
Cheerleaders were the games from beginning to end. Poms only came out at halftime.
Cheerleaders cheered & got the fans involved. Poms say nothing.
Cheerleaders do lots of tumbling, lifts, and throws. Poms did not do any of those things, but it may be different now.
Every once in a while the cheer team would ask the pom team if they could borrow our poms. We laughed in their faces and told them to go make more signs and make due with their megaphones.
I can't believe I remember all of this from so long ago.
