She seems awfully confident about the ease of planning it so precisely! I planned on having a 2013 baby and here we are nearly two years later. I'm amazed she's telling such personal detail to the media. I wish her luck though - definitely will be exciting!
Meh, if you look at the get pregnant board, there are tons of women doing the exact same thing when they just start TTC. Ooooh, they're convinced that if they just chart, they'll be knocked up in one cycle. The amount of super sad BFN posts for people in their first cycle is huge. So why would Chelsea Clinton be any different.
And if she starts trying now, she has 14 or so cycles to get pregnant before she's 'failed'. After 6 negative cycles a lot of American women go to a fertility specialist, she surely has the cash/insurance for that, so she could have 6 ivf cycles or so before 2012 is over.
Honestly, for people like her, it really is easier to make such claims.

I think it's a normal reaction of a lot of woman to think when they start TTC that its going to go easy and quick. She is also giving herself over a year (14months) to get pregnant.
To be fair, a lot of people get pregnant quickly when they start trying. Not ALL do, but a lot. I hope she's one of those who does, instead of one of those who doesn't. It's probably not realistic to say "We're gonna get pregnant in the next year!" but who knows, maybe it will work out for them.

How many cycles of IVF can a woman do a month? I'm not sure I am following the math here (but I don't really know anything about IVF/IUI treatments).
Honestly, most people get pregnant within a year, so her odds are pretty good. And as she has the money, it isn't like she cannot afford fertility treatments should she not get pregnant within her desired time frame. I know there are tons of people that it takes longer, but I think there is no reason to worry about that until it comes about. I hope she gets the baby she is wanting
Also, beyond the planning, I can't imagine why she'd want to invite the media's scrutiny! Every time she eats a big lunch they're going to be wondering if she's got a baby bump. And I'm assuming she has wine at public dinners, which would invite even more speculation. The attention would get old pretty quickly. I guess I'm just to private to be a famous person.
She sounds the way I think a lot of people sound starting out - optimistic. Hopefully she'll get her 2014 baby, but I agree, that is a lot of public pressure to put on yourself regardless!
I think I am the same age as Chelsea. I also wanted to start trying in early 2014. Planned my career/business stuff around this assumption. My husband agreed with the timing. Our lease agreed with this timing.
Here I am almost 6 months pregnant and 2013 isn't over yet. We had to break the lease early. Career stuff all got shuffled around anyways, not really related to the baby but it all worked out for the better. Baby decided to come in early 2014. 2014 is technically when I had thought it would come, just not at the end of 2014 like I had planned.

Technically you could do ivf each cycle, but you have to do some testing first to see what exact options you have. The more money you can throw at it, yhe faster things tend to go/the more options you have. So let's say 14 or 15 cycles 'til the end of 2014, 6 cycles on their own, 2 cycles testing, then worst case scenario straight to ivf and just do that every cycle. That would suck, but would be technically possible. Also, with her connections /money, if after 6 cycles and testing her chances are really bad, for her 8 months would surely get her an adoption (while a lot of other people might have to wait longer for that too.)

Sent from my Xperia Z, please don't mind typos!
Ok, I figured you were talking about getting pregnant in 2014 and not necessarily having a baby in 2014 (which would only be maybe 6ish cycles away which is what I was thinking of).
