So my family (parents, sisters, neices - 8 people in total) are doing a big Disney vacation next week. There are two rooms between us at one of the Disney resorts and we have park-hopper tickets. As we are shelling out tons of money for these things, we are going to try and eat on the cheap.
I live in FL and am meeting them there. My sister is bring the snacks but I am bringing the cold stuff.
So far I have cereal and milk, oranges, apples and yogurt for breakfast. I am bring lunch meat and cheese for lunches. We will probably eat a few dinners out.
Any other ideas for lunches/dinners besides sandwiches that don't require a lot of cooking and don't take up tons of fridge space?
They removed the fridges from most of the rooms due to mechanical issues with them. Just an FYI so you are prepared. I was just there three weeks ago. You could always use a cooler filled with ice, but keep that in mind.
Could you bring a crockpot and make something in there? You could make chicken & noodles using canned chicken, dry noodles, cream of chicken soup and chicken broth. None of that would need refrigerated. I'm sure there are other ideas as well.
When I travel and need to pack food, I buy a rotisserie chicken and pull it apart before I leave. Cold veggies and prepped fruit. Olives and avocados for fat.
I would just stick to sandwiches. They are easy and crowd pleasing for all ages. You can bring a variety of breads/meats/cheeses/toppings. Bring some fresh fruit and veggies and you have yourself a meal.
Edit: Oh sorry I didn't see you were asking for dinner too. I would do sandwiches for lunch.
There's a good Publix nearby - get the deli subs the day of. Send 1 person with the order. You may be able to call ahead - I think some stores will allow this.
Then bring big bags of chips, potato salad (you can grab that at Publix too), cokes/water, fresh fruit etc.
You can request a fridge be brought in - they might charge you for it, and it will be small.
We do this ALL the time when we stay on property. Sometimes you want a 'room picnic' and don't feel like stuffing yourself. We like to open and close the parks, but we'll take a mid-day siesta and go sit by the pool with our lunch. It makes for a relaxing break!
I usually bring a bread, pb and jelly, bagels, cream cheese, lots of fruit, cases of water, granola bars, individual snack packs like goldfish, crackers, string cheese, fruit snacks, etc... you can also bring hot dogs and rolls, make pasta salad ahead of time and just add dressing, grill chicken breast ahead of time and slice, use in wraps or bring bagged salad and dressing
Also, last time we went I brought a cooler bag and a few ice packs to pack lunches/snacks for the day, I brought the ice packs down to front desk every night and they kept them frozen for me until morning
We stayed at Wilderness Lodge and the fridge sucked. We complained and they swapped it out (magically in the 30 minutes we were walking around) but the maintenance people said it was really a cooler not a fridge even though the listing said refrigerator in room. The new one sucked too, probably because they hide them behind doors and they overheat. We ended up buying a soft sides cooler bag and filling it with ice to keep our beer and soda cold (our main purpose for it).
