Hi, What kind of things/gifts have you received for your birthday from your class? Did the room mom/dad ever lead the class in singing happy birthday to you?
Yes I'm a room Mom. Was going to ask for donations for a gift card(totally voluntary) and have kiddos make a card or bring a flower in....
Should I lead them in singing happy birthday too? I don't want to mess with the morning school schedule I know it gets hectic but just wondering if this would be a nice thing to do or too much...

I was a preschool teacher and I had one set of room parents sing happy birthday to me. They came at snack time and were in and out in the allotted 15 minute time frame. I wouldn't do that for an elementary school teacher. I always got gifts, but preschool is a magical fairy land compared to regular school.
Yes, I can see why it would seem weird to some - I didn't grow up celebrating teacher birthdays...not sure if we even had a room mom! But it's pretty common in this area. My youngest kid is in kindergarten and both her older siblings did something to acknowledge their teachers on their birthdays. Nothing elaborate or expensive.
I agree...singing might be too disruptive of the class time.
I've never heard of a teacher informing students or parents of his/her birthday, much less expecting them to acknowledge it in any way, so I think this is super weird.
At DD's school, the room mom is in charge of interviewing the teacher at the beginning of the school year and then sends the info out to all the parents about the teachers "likes" interests and hobbies so that we can all buy appropriate gifts and make the teacher feel "loved." This is how I know that when I show up to assist in the library, I am to bring the teacher a vanilla latte and NOT a chai tea latte. It's a little over the top. At this school, teachers' birthdays are treated like friggin holidays.

Yeah, this is where I am. I taught preschool for several years and I don't remember anyone at the school ever even knowing it was my birthday, or any of the other teachers'.
Lilly came home with her preschool class October calendar yesterday and it had her teacher's birthday noted on it. I thought it seemed weird. Is she expecting something?
It's not common where I'm originally from and I wouldn't do anything but maybe wish a happy birthday in passing.
Although last year I came back to school from mat leave the day before my birthday. I have no clue how the kids new it was my birthday, but they did. A bunch of them decorated my room with welcome back and happy birthday signs. It was cute
My daughter is in pre school. The room mom collected pictures of the kids from us and made fake flowers with them to give the teacher in her birthday.
I never received anything for my birthday when I was a teacher (first, second and third grades). Parents never lead a song or did anything. It was fine by me because the little kids I taught did not need another reason to be hyper or off the wall.
