I'm trying to turn over a new leaf. This week I've been getting up early and working out, coming home and doing the same and eating healthier. I decided since I am hitting a big bday milestone next month I'd like to slim down a bit. Total vanity I know.
This morning I got up earlier and made chili for dinner, worked out and feel amazing. I need to keep this up. I think it will be good for me. I also sorted laundry for H to do. He can clean it if I sort out what hangs and what goes in the dryer. I am excited I don't have to do it.
It feels like it's going to be a good day.
Anybody else decide to make some changes this Fall?
I have been waking up for no reason at 5 am for the last couple days. My eyes fly open and I'm all "I didn't hear my alar..oh FFS again?" So if it keeps up, I may start working out in the mornings too.
I have derailed my attempts to eat better this week. *sigh* I've been doing better with my portions but not so great with the sugar elimination.
I want to lose that last 33 pounds.
I've also been thinking hard about going to church again. I'd like to find a place where I'm comfortable and can bring the kids.
I'd like to start singing again too, the church thing may help with that.

You are a rock star, neon!
cuddly, I think you should sing!
I need to get a schedule down. I'm all over the place and I need to find a new groove. What worked for me before isn't going to work in our new situation.

I need to figure something out. I'd like to lose my last 30 pounds as well, but am more focused on how my clothes fit and feel.
I had been getting up and running before work, but since school started and my mom's back at work, it means I have to be up and done in the bathroom by the time she gets up at 6:30. So if I were to run in the mornings, I'd have to get up at 4:30 and it doesn't even get light outside until 6. We don't live in a well lit area, so I don't really feel comfortable running that early in the dark. After work, I have DS to worry about, and once he's in bed for the night, it's dark again.
I was thinking about finding a gym with daycare, but I feel guilty at the thought of picking up DS from one daycare and taking him to another one, even if it's only an hour. It would seriously cut into our time together. I'm not sure what the solution is, but there has to be one. I feel more confident and more prepared to combat the day if I work out in the mornings.
Starries could you do a video at your house once DS goes to sleep? Then you won't be in the dark but still get something in. I feel you on running at night. I live in the city and have almost been hit even while wearing lights and bright colors. Running in the dark wouldn't be ideal.
Cuddly you need to sing!
Muddled. This getting up early thing is new for me. I'm hoping I can keep it up.

I could, but I'd have to do it in the living room. When you're sharing a house with your mom and brother, that tends to be a little on the uncomfortable side. I don't have a tv in my room, and even if I did I'm currently sharing a room with DS, so the chances of him sleeping through it are pretty slim. Although I could get up earlier and do it while everyone else is sleeping...
cuddlyevil, I don't know about you, but there are very few activities in life that I enjoy less than singing. I think you should do it!! When I get into more of a routine and really get settled I'm thinking about auditioning for a choral group. I thought about it a couple of years ago, but stbx was very against it. So I didn't do it. I wish I had.

Starries, I have an exercise bike I got cheap second hand and videos I use to do after the kid went to bed. I'm not an early riser, so it worked well for me to work out in the evenings. Sometimes I'd do calisthenics and yoga with my son still awake. He always thought it was funny when I'd use him as a weight.
I need to start again now that life is settling down.
starrieskies Are there any gyms close to your work that you could go to at lunch?
A few people do that where I work. Some people will walk or run around our business park at lunch time too. There are showers and lockers in the one set of bathrooms but sadly, not everyone uses them.
Otherwise, I ditto the exercise video early in the morning or after DS is in bed. You don't want to run in the dark.
ETA: I just saw about not having a tv in your room. Do you have a ipad/other tablet? There's a lot of exercise videos on youtube or amazon instant video. Does your parents house have a basement that you could use?

Well, since you won't be handing him off to H every weekend any longer, you don't have to worry as much about losing time together. Right?
If you get him up early to go to the gym, it seems like a crazy morning, but you wouldn't be missing any quality time that way, either.
I think that if this makes you feel good, you need to find a way to make it work.

There are a couple of gyms in my area. I am going to look into that, although I'm a little tight on cash, so actually joining may have to wait for a little bit longer.
I'll probably start getting up a little bit earlier for now so I can get something in. I have had a rough time sleeping lately (more so than usual) so I've kind of put sleep as a higher priority. Of course if I'm exercising, the sleep will probably improve too. When the weather cooperates, I do go walking at lunch so I guess that's better than nothing.
I think I am going to start working out in the basement again. That way, I won't be as grumpy with H in the evenings (hurrying him off to bed so I can work out) and I can get my workout in regularly.
It's been so long since I've sung anywhere but in my car, I don't even know what my voice sounds like anymore. I might check with our conservatory here and see if I can pick up a few lessons from a pedagogy student.

Yes, Muddled. You are absolutely right. I do need to find a way to make it work. If I get up early and go to the gym while DS is sleeping, I can shower there and get ready for my day so it would also eliminate the bathroom sharing issue... I'd just have to be back at the house in time to get DS up and dressed for the day...
I'm going to start looking into gyms. I'm more successful if I go somewhere else to work out. Once I'm there I feel like I have to make it worth my while. Whereas if I try to do it at home, I tend to get sidetracked easier.
I keep forgetting that there is a fucking gym space IN MY WORKPLACE. With free weights, elliptical, treadmill, etc. Why the fuck aren't I going there right after work or during lunch and getting it over with?
Every time you all talk about exercise you make me feel like a bad person.
I was really good about cooking healthier in the summer and I've been super shitty at it lately. I really need to get back in the habit of it. It saved us a lot of money too.
