Today is trash day so I was shredding the last little bit of papers to recycle and get to the curb. As I was feeding them through a couple pieces dropped to the ground beside the shredder. I reached down to grab them and the shredder caught my hair and shredded it. Thank goodness my hair is long and layered so you can't really tell but I did get a handful of hair clippings when I pulled it out. Thank heaven's it's a cross-cut so I could just reverse my hair out.
That's why I usually keep it pulled back in a ponytail or a bun. I have a feeling it's going to be in a ponytail a bit more often now. Oops.
Normally it has an auto shut-off when there is no paper feeding but I'd just put in some envelopes and receipts so it was operating. Then my hair got caught as I leaned over to grab what I'd dropped, since I was already kneeling close to the shredder. It pulled my hair in about four inches or so before I realized what was going on and could stop it. It has a reverse button so I reversed and it reversed my hair right back out. It's why I said I'm glad it's a cross-cut rather than having a spool type shredder, so instead of wrapping around a spool it just chopped my hair into tiny pieces as it fed through. Some of my hair is probably still in the basket with the papers but I also had a bit come out with my hair and a bit more when I ran my hands through what was pulled in.
I need a hair cut and color anyway. Silver linings.

A few years ago I was using a paper cutter at work (you know, the one with the big handle you push down to slice things). I was cutting a lot of stuff and kind of on autopilot. I was growing my hair out for the wedding. Well, one chop I looked down and there was my hair on the table. Luckily it wasn't much and I gasped when it happened!
