I don't care about who I draw but if people are concerned, what about a requirement that participants have to have been a registered user for a certain amount of time (since this month?) and a certain number of posts (100?) on gbcn? Nothing major, just not lurkers that never, ever post.
Bliss , that sucks about your gift but I don't know why people make such a huge deal over it. You didn't stiff anyone and you are the only one who suffers by not getting the gift so no need to give you crap over it. Dumb.
That's annoying. I'm only reporting. I've not participated in any of the exchanges. I find the drama surrounding them to be endlessly entertaining though.
I'm glad I'm not alone. I caught up on the ML and S&B recaps from last year - helps me get into the holiday spirit.
I would love to do it but I'm paranoid about giving my address. Maybe next year I'll be brave enough. I'll just watch the excitement from the side lines again this year.

Ya, I don't understand the ban either. I'm the one who got the short end of the stick. The sender got their gift back, which I assume they could use, and everyone wins. But oh well.

Im in for this one; i did a few last year but Im not sure if MM was one of them. My only 'mistake/mishap' was a few years ago when elfster would not link to my account and forced me to set up a new one; I ended up with 2 elves and got 2 gifts but I also sent out 2 gifts so it worked out. I think it happened to someone else as well.
- How to handle those not in US? - Will we set a minimum # of posts to participate? - I'm thinking we should probably do tracking #'s too, right?
One option/idea for the non-us residents (canada, uk, germany)--they could set up a wishlist on their respective Amazon sites and then their elves could order directly from the site and not have to worry about shipping from the US.

I am not sure if I am in or not. I want to be, and my gift I received last year was great, but I ended up buying for a lurker and I didn't think that was as much fun as picking something out for someone I "know". I guess for me I would want to know if it's mostly regulars or if there are going to be a bunch of people I've never heard of (or seen since) too. I know that sounds grinchy and I'm normally all about including everyone so maybe that's a good indication I should stay out
Well, maybe we could do a "ice breaker/get to know" post for all those who do it. I wasn't too familiar with my person either, so it was kinda tricky, but I know even the lurkers want to be included. So maybe this will be a time to call them out so to speak.
And no, you shouldn't stay out. You could get someone awesome this year and it's always fun to receive gifts!
And you did well! The baby names book went with us to the hospital so we could find a name for the kid when she was born!
I am in! I agree that it's sort of creepy to have your address available to someone who's never posted. Maybe we need a post minimum of 100 or something? People who want to do this can start delurking NOW so they're eligible.
i agree with this and @buckybells feelings on it.
but i'd personally be more comfortable with 500+ posts.
I'm at 578 (579) so I think over 500 is a bit much. Not everyone posts as frequently as others. Some just enjoy the lurking and sharing when necessary.
I think 100 is good. Plus a AMA thread to learn more about the person or something.

Whoa, I didn't realize your post count was so low! I guess exceptions could be made for those who are known posters who changed names?
IDK I don't want to make things complicated I think those who opt in should use their best judgement on whether or not they post enough for it to be fun to exchange gifts. We're a pretty friendly group so there is no reason why anyone who wants to participate on the board should feel like they can't. If people are choosing not to participate in the conversation, they should choose not to participate in the other activities. If you want to join in, start posting and let us get to know you!
Obviously that's just my opinion and people should do whatever they want lol. I just feel like if I'm going to spend $25 and effort on buying nail polish and body wash for a random person I've never heard of, I'd rather do that for someone on one of those Christmas lists where you buy for someone in need.
/grinch. You can ban me from the exchange if you want now
I hear what you're both saying and I definitely agree.
I guess I'm not too paranoid about it. But I don't really have much for someone to take advantage of. And I figure criminals don't spend too much time GBCNing.
