For some reason, Tman and I are going through a really close phase. I am loving it and want to be sure to take full advantage of it. So, I was thinking of him and I getting away for just a couple days. I found that we can both take the train to Portland for $70/round trip for both of us. Taking the train would be an adventure, but what could we do for a couple days while we are down there? Anything fun right in Portland that we could walk to or take transit to (if we take the train)?
If he likes history stuff, the Portland walking tour is really interesting (we're nerds so we loved it), lasted about 2.5-3 hours.http://www.portlandwalkingtours.com/tours/underground-portland-shanghai-tunnels-tour/ I think how "bawdy" the story is depends on your guide. Ours poo-pooed stuff so just begrugingly told stories. But they don't get highly inappropriate, just like how there was a brothel boat on the river that shifted moorings to avoid taxes.
The cooking school is really great, you could take a class together. Saturday market is great, larger than our farmers markets.
OMSI
The food trucks are a lot of fun, and big clusters all over.
Oh, DEFINITELY Powell's. I loved that as a kid, too! Granted, I was a book worm, but color-coded rooms to find things because its so huge? It has its own map? Heaven.
You can take their light rail system right to the zoo! And it's a great zoo, so I would definitely recommend that. I've never been to OMSI but I loved science museums as a kid. And I agree with Powell's -- love that place!
