Hmmmm, I would totally want to wear a white dress, something casual and beachy and flowy. Everything I'm thinking is not festive for Christmas, though. Hmmmm.

I like the idea of a white dress. I'm just short and I have big boobs, so flowy doesn't always work for me. Well, and also I'm pasty white, so there's also that. White looks better on people with tans.
This is what I tell my clients - buy an outfit for the kid, then base adult clothing on that.
I am loving purple and orange right now.
See. No. I buy MY outfit then base all of the ADDITIONAL outfits on MY outfit. YW.
LOL - I feel like kids outfits are the easiest to pick and usually have colors that can be coordinated with very easily.
For the photos we had done, I put Will in a turquoise, brown, white and orange button up shirt and brown shorts. DH wore khaki shorts and a brown shirt, and I wore a brown dress with a white shrug and turquoise necklace.
Kids in colorful patterns, parents in coordinated solids. Done.

Man, my kid photographs AWESOME in turquoise (see avatar). I like solids for pictures, and turquoise is one of my favorite accent colors. I know it's totally vain, but I'm not even joking about shopping for my own outfit first. I am the hardest to dress, lol. I honestly feel that H and David look good in anything, so they have to work around me.
I agree with Eb. I picture you in a flowy white dress, your H in a white shirt with the sleeves rolled up and the cuffs of jeans rolled up, your little guy in a white onesie with a Santa cap on. I mean, really. Yes!
Yes!!! This is how I saw it too, maybe with some khaki in there.
I totally believe that it may be overdone, for sure. I just had no idea and would have gone that route. I'm sure nobody in Texas would have realized it was dated!

LOL, I get this.
I'm speaking from a photographer's perspective, too. If everyone is wearing white, you blend in with each other and it's boring. Just like I tell people not to wear green when we're doing photos on a nature trail. Like, small accents of green are cool, but not a ton of green.
I haven't been shopping in ages. But I like The Limited, White House Black Market, Nordstrom, Macys, etc. I also like a lot of the stuff I see on ModCloth. I'm flexible, though.

Don't wear white on the beach, I will also have to disown you. Almost as much as if you all wore neon.
That being said - L's pictures last year were white on the beach - ahhahaha. I'm sure it would work in some way for a boy, but it worked great for L. Or you could just do the hat on him - then match the colors you chose for the hat for you guys.
I like somewhat muted clothes, so that the clothes aren't the focus of the photos - the people are. And as much as I love turquoise - the color cast it does on faces can really suck.

What time is the shoot? That will make a big difference.
A lot of times I see the kid in a bright color (like red), and then the parents will be wearing grays, blues, etc.
Or maybe the main color is red. The kid wears a solid red t-shirt, Dad wears a plaid button-up red shirt with other colors, Mom wears a white top with a red pattern.
