I went through the rec. thread but I could use some specific recs for dystopian or post-apocalyptic fiction, YA or adult. I enjoyed Alas, Babylon, Hunger Games trilogy (although not the last one), Divergent. I read Wool but I'm not sure how I feel about it.
I just read a new one that came out which was excellent - The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon. More fantasy-ish with a dystopian past, if that makes any sense!
ETA: I second and third The Dog Stars. So good I read it twice!
Ender's Game...especially before the movie comes out.
I had this one on my list, but recently read an article where he was spouting his anti-gay rhetoric, and now I refuse. I was bummed because I'd heard good things.
Ashfall was pretty good. It's about the Yellowstone volcano erupting and a teenager's journey to find his family in this post-eruption world. I haven't read books two or three yet, though.

No. Author is a homophone, the book is wildly predictable (albeit a sometimes entertaining and very fast read). I'll link you to a post of someone who's read it so you don't have to
I've heard the delirium series is also good. Similar to divergent.

I liked his Worthing Saga. Read that one, but take it out from the library so that his gay-hating ass doesn't get any of your money.
Anything by Octavia Butler. I love the Parable series and the Xenogenesis series.
And part of the reason I like Octavia Butler is because there is a healthy dose of race and sex issues thrown into the science fiction/dystopian plots. She was one of the only black female science fiction writers and her perspective comes through in her writing.

I've had her on my TBR list for a while but haven't found any of her books at my local used book store so haven't read any of them yet. I might have to boost them up to my buy-new list!
If you read Oryx and Crake, know they are people. I made it through half the book and was very unsure so I read Wikipedia. I don't think it is supposed to be. I was not sure where the story was going and that was very distracting to me.

I liked The 5th Wave, which surprised me- I'm not a big alien fan Graceling series by Kristin Cashore Daughter of Smoke & Bone series by Laini Taylor Shadow & Bone (Grisha series) by Leigh Bardugo Delirium series Hex Hall series by Rachel Hawkins (pretty juvenile, but a fun read) I loved The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel series by Michael Scott
I just finished The Passage and looked for The Twelve as an audio book because I *need* to read the next book asap but they are hefty
I'll be honest--I've been on The Twelve for months now because I can't get into it. I don't know why, because I tore through the passage.
Damn, The Passage was so good and the end was just unsatisfying. I actually didn't know it was a trilogy until I looked up other books by him . Then the ending was okay.
Margaret Atwood has a great trilogy starting with Oryx and Crake. The third novel just came out recently. I highly recommend it.
I had no idea it was part of a trilogy. I really enjoyed Oryx and Crake.
i also enjoyed Sherri Teppper's The Gate to Woman's Country.
The Year of the Flood and Maddadam come next. I am rereading Oryx and Crake now because I'm a dork. I need to re read both books before Maddadam. Continue with your bad self!!
