1. Fancy baby clothes were a disappointment. I'm just as fancy.
2. Worms in my food. Worms. In my food. I bake...sort of off and on. Well, I decided today to bake. There were webs in my flour and oats. And worms. And moths. I've thrown everything out in that particular pantry and now we are just eating chocolate chips.
I had worms on my counter after the bird mite incident of 2012. Dh poisoned the vent hood and there were apparently larvae of something living in the birds nesting that promptly ran into my house.
They were FALLING from somewhere onto my counters. I was hysterical.

I'm always worried about finding bugs in my flour and probably throw away more than I need to. I just have a bad memory from my childhood of worms in my pancakes.
My wish list is some airtight clear canisters for my flour, sugar, rice, etc so I can keep those things longer. I havent found any good ones. i really font want plastic. trying to limit the plastic in my life. Currently I close the bags well and put in Ziplocks but still probably toss the flour after a month. I know it is good longer than that but I'm paranoid about bugs.

Put it in the fridge. Works great and I don't have to worry about it. Have you checked the container store for storage options?

I have non-plastic canisters from Target, have you looked there?

Nononononoooooo. We had bird mites once. I thought we had it bad but now I realize it could have been so much worse.

I know you don't want plastic, but I have to say I love this set. I keep flour and sugar in the big ones, and rye, whole wheat and semolina in the smaller ones, and they take up next to no space in my pantry, compared to the regular canisters I used to have. I'm not really a rubbermaid girl, but I love these. I'm planning on getting another set for teas, confectioners sugar, brown sugar and whatnot.
I had moths get into a bag of flour once, years ago. We were building our cedar deck at the time so I had DH cuta tiny block of cedar for each shelf in my pantry. I seal everything in zip locks and keep the cedar smell fresh by rubbing it with sandpaper ever couple of years. I have not had a problem since.
I know that Terget sells a package of small cedar tiles in the department near the ironing boards/laundry baskets, etc.

This is the most disgusting story ever, you have been warned.
So we went out of town for two weeks, and my neighbor was in charge of letting in the cats at night. Apparently he was lazy, and just cracked open a basement window the whole time. When we came home, we were greeted by the smell of satan himself residing in our living room. But we couldn't find the smell. So I carried all our laundry downstairs and the floor was covered with maggots. Raining from the ceiling. Swarming my floor.
The cat had stuffed a dead bird or something behind my massive oak roll top desk and the wall, and the maggots went right through the floor. I still have nightmares about this.
I flipped my shit and went to my dads house while my poor, long suffering bf at the time did clean up duty.
We moved a few months later and I never talked to the assfuck neighbor again.

Pantry moths. We went over this a few weeks back. Clean everything and check everything. I am dead serious. I'd probably just throw everything in the pantry away except cans and start over. And clean those cans.

I think the OXO Pop collection has glass canisters available in addition to plastic ones.
I didn't know I could get bugs in my flour! A few weeks ago, I totally saw a moth go into my cupboard where i keep my flour and sugar through the crack by the hinges. I opened it up and looked but I never saw him in there or come out. Now I'm convinced he's laid eggs in my flour. Eww!! I'm throwing it all out.

Yes! I had noticed some moths near the pantry, but just thought "whatever I live in the wilderness". NOw I know what they were up to. Fuckers.
