I strongly dislike the showbiz feel they have given this game. The hype is out of control. However, it seems to be working - Colorado is going nuts over tonight's game. It almost has a "bigger than super bowl" feel. I'm all atwitter and I don't even fully understand the drama surrounding this game. Hopefully the local bars profit, I know we will be huge contributors to the local alcohol sales this evening

not snarking, but what do you mean by this? football IS pure entertainment, so the showbiz/hype kind of goes perfectly with the actual game, imo.
Sure, and I am all for it when it's about the game. I feel like sometimes I am watching a tribute to John Lennon. Dramatic background music, fade in on shot of man and son walking away hand in hand, cue voice over of nostalgic childhood memory, swap to shot of mother explaining all the trials and tribulations they went through growing up.
Let's talk football. Let's dramatize the game, that I am all for. But seriously, these people aren't saints or anything. They are athletes in a game America is obsessed with. Lately it has seemed almost worship-worthy, which I side-eye. That's just me though (sitting here shaking my hypothetical pom-poms while watching the pre-game).
I'm a huge Manning fan - I love them all so much and I can't wait to see Peyton play tonight! GO BRONCOS indeed!
That said, aside from Irsay's comments this week, I don't think the Colts did anything wrong. Football (NFL Football) is a business, and it's about making money. The Colts owed Peyton $28million at a time when there wasn't reason to believe he was going to be the quarterback that they signed that massive contract with. They offered to renegotiate with him, and restructure his pay based on future performance.
Peyton knew he'd be better, and wanted to sign a bigger contract with a more immediate contract with another team, so he did not agree to renegotiate with the Colts.
They cut him. He signed a massive contract with Denver and has been wildly successful there.
It's a business. They both made business decisions.
(again, his comments this week sound pretty out of line and i get the outrage on peyton's behalf on that!)
i have a feeling this game might get a little out of control. jim irsay did peyton so wrong, and his comments this past week just pushed my irritation for him over the edge. what a prick. peyton is going to go OFF tonight lol.
plus, it's weird as hell that they're using this game to honor him. weird. as. hell.
i feel bad for andrew luck. not bad enough to want them to win, but holy awkward.
Completely agree. No mercy on the Colts. Irsay is always making ridiculous comments but to blast Peyton the way he did was totally disrespectful. And of course Peyton took the high road with his media interviews. So sign up this ravens fan to cheer for the broncos. DH says he hopes the Broncos win the Super Bowl bc of Irsay's comments (and also bc Peyton manning is a football genius...)

I am a life long Broncos fan. I totally love Peyton and I, admittedly biased, hope that a W at the Super Bowl happens for Peyton. Totally on that boat.
Peyton is a very humble man. He did great, non-football related things for Indianapolis. He is a bit of a saint for the city. He is a great footba player, yes. But he is so much more than that.
He's also a genuinely nice person (bad taste in beer though). He's the only celeb-crush I've ever had.
I don't especially care who wins but I need Andrew Luck to have a career day because he is my fantasy football QB and I had a lot of guys underperform this week.
Huge Bronco fan signing in. Man, We can't lose this one guys. Is it just me or are the Colts really on fire this game?! It's as if they want to rub it in that they don't need Manning anymore. Fuuuuuuuck!!!
