I did not like it. I still think about it and wonder what people like about it. We went based off of the reviews and it was just terrible. I'm glad you enjoyed it though because at least you feel like you got your money's worth. :/

I saw it in 3d with seats that move with the action (d-box, maybe?). It was pretty epic. I loved the effects and visuals, but the story got a little boring. Overall I really liked it, though.

Visually fantastic. Totally did a great job with the "feeling" of space. Story was ridiculous and disappointing. But I liked it for what it was. Just wish they had written a better story.

I definitely agree that some of the visuals and even the sound was good but there was no story. I only had high expectations for that movie because the critics were acting like it was the best thing ever.

This is pretty spot on. Although I'm creeped out by space to begin with, so all I kept thinking the whole movie was "that's what you get for going into space, like an idiot!"
Someone spoil it for me with a spoiler tag. I will not be seeing it, but I want to know the boring story.
SPOILER ALERT
SPOILER ALERT
YOU'VE BEEN ALERTED.
WAMP, WAMP, WAMP.
Sandra and Clooney are in space. It's Sandra's first space mission. Clooney is clearly a veteran and joke-y and relaxed. There's another guy, but he gets killed off fast. All three are outside of the ship. Houston tells them that there's been accident the Russian's have blown up one of their own satellite's and now there's space debris hurtling at them at 20,000 miles per hour and will reach them in no time and they are supposed to get back in the ship, but they don't. Sandra is thrown off into space. Clooney, who is wearing a jet pack, rescues her and they head back to the ship, there's a huge hole in it, everyone's dead. They head to the Russian ship. When they get there there's trouble engaging with the ship and Sandra's just hanging by a thread (tethers from a parachute). Clooney sacrifices himself and away he goes towards his demise. She gets in the ship and relaxes. We see fire on the ship, she does not. She has a quiet moment until an alarm sounds and then massive fire. She goes to a safe place in the ship and disengages from the fiery part of the ship and gets away, but not before having to get out of her safe place and undo the tethers. But there's no fuel, fuck--you have got to be kidding me. She has another private moment and decides to off herself and turns down the O2 and Clooney appears and tells her she can get home. Poof he's gone--figment of her imagination. She blasts the landing jets and to get to the Chinese ship that will take her home. Then she has to leave the ship and use a fire extinguisher to propel herself towards the Chinese ship. She gets in, but more debris, she gets into the safe pod or whatever. It's a hot re-entry, there's some fire, she lands in the water and then the pod starts to sink and she goes to the bottom of the water and swims to the surface. She gets on dry land and walks away. Finito.
Saw it in Imax 3D as well...if there was a movie to see in that setting it's this one. I got motion sickness at the beginning (whoa upside down earth and spinning!!!). Yep, couldn't pay me enough to get me into space now.

I thought it was amazing and not just the visuals. It wasn't meant to be an action movie or a big "storyline" driven plot. It's a movie about a woman stuck in space. I don't know what else they should have done short of having aliens come hang out with her to make a better story.
The only thing I hated was the part about her daughter. It was just so random. They could have found a much more believable way for that to have happened.
Same here. I thought the effects were great in 3D but it needs to be seen in Imax. Don't see it on a standard screen. The tear makes it worth the 3d.
All in all, great visuals but honestly, I saw better 3D at the Kennedy Space Center Imax theater seven or so years ago so I wasn't completely blown away. And it would be more amazing if you actually connected with the movie and characters and storyline. You have to really feel engaged to get the full sensation of 3D and Imax, not just "oh, cool effect" when something is floating around the theater.
My favorite scene was when she first got to the Russian station and took all her equipment off and just floated around, like she was in the womb. I felt myself relaxing and breathing right along with her. I thought that was a beautiful image
