We are having a new chimney built on our house this week. The workers will have to come in the house because they need to core a hole through the foundation. DH asked me to clean up the house because we are "having people come through". I told him they can come through the basement door ( the level the hole is going in). DH cannot understand why I don't want them coming through the front door, through the living room. I'm pregnant, tired, cranky, etc and have been spending the majority of my time on the couch camped out in front of the TV. Sorry if I don't need random guys witnessing this. Is this request as crazy as DH is making it sound?

If the basement level is where they need to be, then by all means they should enter through the basement door. They don't care. Offer them a drink, let them go about their business.
If they are doing the work in the basement, then it only makes sense for them to go in through the basement. No need to be traipsing through the house, and possibly tracking in dirt.

They would probably prefer going through the basement door just as much as you do. Sounds like your husband just wants an excuse for you to clean up a little.

If MH asked me to clean the house and zero of his own arms or less were broken we would have words. You have an issue with the way the house looks, you clean it.
They are not guests. Guests get the front door and enter through the living room. Workers, and their possibly dirty shoes/boots enter through the basement.
The bigger issue is - if H wants it clean, H cleans it. He's an adult, he lives there and I presume his arms are not broken.
