For granddaughter(s), age 8 and 10, which would you get:
iPad Kindle Fire ($150-200) Surface or other similar tablet Something else None of the above
iPad is the most expensive but PTAs are purchasing for the schools and technology is being utilized more with iPad I think at this age. She should be iPad proficient and she's not really compared to many of her peers.
Kindle Fire is less expensive but has internet access and a lot of the kids at school have them.
Surface has the access but will also have word processing software (I think...haven't looked to far into it yet), external drives for flash, etc. I was talking with a mom of a similar-aged girl and she is getting a Surface for her older daughter because it makes more sense than the Kindle where schoolwork is concerned once they reach middle and high school.

I picked a kindle fire, because that's what we're getting for Kristen (6). I'm more concerned about price at this point. It'll last her a few years (fingers crossed) and by then she'll be ready for something more serious/expensive.
