God, I love that book. I've read it multiple times because it's pretty obtuse and I get something new out of it everytime. I thought the movie was great, but my wife who hadn't read the book was like WTF did I just watch. They tried their best, but there's just too much to cover in one movie. It should have been a mini series on HBO or something.

I suspected this was the case. Without the background of the book, the movie is just a jumble of insanity.
