I am sorry I didn't follow your birthing enough to know if you had a c-section or vaginally. I assume you wouldn't want to bathe with a c-section anyway, actually so..
If you went the V route, listen to your doctor. I didn't. I was like OOOO a bath sounds SO NICE. The stitches dissolved early or something. Things weren't pretty. I was unhappy.

Didn't you not even tear? Why shouldn't you take a bath? My doctor told me TO take baths because they would make me and my stitches feel better. He was right, the bath was awesome.

The issue is you have a gaping wound in your uterus right now where the placenta was and yuckies from the water can easily travel into the ute via the vagina post delivery. The same reason you are to abstain from sex. You are far more vulnerable to an infection in the ute right now. Soak your legs or take a long shower and losten to your doc.
Confession: for the first 4-5 days after birth, I had to fill up the bath to sit in it TO PEE. Otherwise it burnt my poor torn vagina too much. I would have died without baths. Probably poisoned by my own urine or something.

I had a third degree tear and was in a ton of pain and my dr had me soak every day.
I was told any bath should be in just a few inches of water. Like a sitz bath for discomfort. No soaking and marinating in your skin flakes and soap scum. It sounded legit so I went with it.

I was told to bathe 2-3 times a day for the first couple of weeks to help with healing. I had a 3rd degree tear the first time and a second degree the second time.

Yes this. Its an open internal wound very susceptible to infection.
No advice on the bath, but I want to send you big hugs. You will feel better again. Your body will heal. The post partuum hormones and nerves will calm. You will get sleep someday. It will get better. Not tomorrow, but it will. I promise.

I had a vaginal birth, no tearing, no stitches. I'm all healed up down there, and even my PP bleeding has stopped.

Doctors are confusing! Why don't they tell everyone the same thing?
I may just say fuck it, and live dangerously.
sonrisa thank you! At this point in time, I just like, let me sleep kid! Do I have to get up with you every time?? And then I see his face, and think, my god he's cute.

What?? lol didn't they give you a squirt bottle and dermaplast to use for that?
I would just make sure the bath tub is clean and that you are not taking a bubble bath or anything. I don't know how you all survived those wicked afterbirth cramps without a bath.
I lived in the bath tub pregnant, so this is a shock to the system.

They did not. I bought one myself but it wasn't as effective as peeing in the bath.

If it makes you feel better my midwife told me she encourages moms to bathe pp once a day and to get the toilet seat bowl for sitz baths once a day.
And the Bradley method books I've read said to take a bath too.
It'll make me feel better when I decide to take a bath tonight!

I never thought I would be jealous of another womans vagina!
Obviously I am no doctor, but I am pretty sure you can take a bath LOL
I specifically asked my ob before discharge in the hospital and she said that my home tub should be just fine. I just avoided bubble bath/soap and used them purely for relaxation.

This is the recommendation I give to my postpartum patients.
