Ok. Quick backstory: my neighbor inherited these two indoor/outdoor cats a few years ago, when a friend of hers died. The cats were going to be put down, so she took them instead. She complained about them all the time, but I thought she actually liked them.
Meanwhile, Thor and I LOVE these cats. They're brothers, and they're friendly and funny and sweet. They spend a lot of time with us in the backyard. Since we moved in, I've grown really attached to them.
Welp. We saw the neighbor this weekend, who excitedly tells us she's getting a dog, and that she gave the cats away to someone three blocks away, and that if they come back, she's going to take them to the pound.
Guys, we went inside, and I burst into tears. Even though they aren't our cats. Even though they're three blocks away. I wish we could have taken them, but we're only allowed 2 cats in our lease, so we're at capacity now. Also our girls HATE these cats; they see them from the window and freak out. Even if it were allowed, it wouldn't be pretty.
What am I gonna instagram now? I take a lot of pics of these guys. And I dry them off with paper towels after it rains. I am irrationally gloomy about this.
This might be my crazy cat lady coming out, but tell your neighbor that if they come back, to give them to you and not take them to the pound. Eff the two cat rule, and then foster them until you can find a permanent home for them.
I'm sorry
Yes, this above.
At being only 3 blocks away, they will come back to visit you if let outdoors. It's just how cats are.

This was my instinct. I also know someone around here who does foster cats, and I'm sure she'd take them in.
They're gonna be hard to adopt out, though. They're 15 years old, and they demand to be outside 75% of the day. Also, they kill and eat things. No one wants to adopt a pair of old murderers. Except me.

At 15, I'd hang on to them for a little longer. Especially if they're outside most of the time anyway.
Their names are Socks and Roger. They are identical, except Rog is really puffy.
I really love them. I hope they are happy with their new people, 3 blocks away. I also hope they visit me every now and then.

I am sorry and I understand why you burst into tears. One of my cats was a neighbor's cat also, they took her to the pound and I cried and went up there and got her out of the pound and she's been with me since.
If they were to become yours, you might be able to fake it. I had three cats in an apartment with a two cat limit, but two of my cats were gray tabbies so I just relied on people not realizing how many there were. So that might work if it comes to it?
I hope they are happy in their new home and visit you regularly though! Sounds like that might be the best thing...
Noooo! I'm sorry - they are so sweet. I hope they like their new home.
Do you guys potentially want two mostly outdoor cats?! Just don't mention the indoor part to your H!
I'm just imagining trying to be breezy about this. How would this go?
him: Um. These cats look familiar. you: Do they? him: Wait. Are these the cats that were at gozf's party? The cats you really liked? you: Huh. I think so. Weird! him: How did these cats get here? you: Maybe they really liked me, too. Maybe they walked here. I'm going out for cat food, do you need anything?
