I've been planning to forgo a 3rd birthday party for DD. She's only three (so it isn't like she knows better). I don't want to bother getting the house organized enough to host a dozen kids and their parents. It's a small house. We'd have to move furniture out of the nursery room and the living/dining room and it would still be tight. I'll be about 35/36 weeks pregnant at the time and feel lazy even thinking about it. Mid-november is too cold for an outdoor party.
My mom's house is about twice the size of ours and has a big living room / dining room area. They have hosted parties for 50-70 people before, no problem. I am thinking of asking her if we could host there. We'd hire house cleaners before and after, plus do all the work. But it's still a big imposition. She loves parties and is a pushover for her granddaughter so she'd probably say yes if I asked. She will also be hosting Thanksgiving just two weeks later (she'll host, I'll do most of the cooking).
Have you mentioned your concerns about throwing a party to her? She might offer and then you wouldn't have to feel bad about asking. lol
That is exactly how I would phrase it. lol. She has offered to host other things for DD and her friends in the past and I've never taken her up on it. She loves her house and loves showing it off.
Even if you host the party at your mom's, won't it still be exhausting to plan?
Planning is fun for me. Target and Costco runs for supplies are also fun (sort of). Lugging furniture around and squeezing too many people into a tiny space, not so much fun.

I love planning too, just not at 36 weeks. At 36 weeks, I felt like I deserved a gold start for getting dressed and going to brunch.

As someone who also loves party planning and just hosted 40ish peeps for a 3rd birthday - don't do it! Rent out a place! 36 weeks pregnant is no joke and the exhaustion will be great!

See, with a rented place, I'd have to do the set up on site right before the guests arrive. At my mom's, I could set up the day before and just waltz in. Cleaning ladies could arrive an hour after the party ends. I thought it might be easier. Hmmmm.

No, no, I mean, go to a place that hosts parties and have the party there! Bounce U, a kids' art studio, something!

That seems so fancy for a 3 year old. She just stopped peeing in her pants. Most days.

Hahaha, you must not have Bounce U. There is routinely old pizza crusts stuck in between the inflatables, I'm sure. And who knows what's in the ball pit.
