I have all the books I could need, and what more could I need than books? I shall only engage in commerce if books are the coin. -- Catherynne M. Valente
I already asked for my nieces and nephews. i don't expect to get answers for a couple weeks. Otherwise - it all becomes super last minute or I don't have any ideas at all.

We get an email from SIL about what the neice and nephews want mid-November. We wait until Target is sold out of everything, and then we order from Amazon.

I like to ask before Thanksgiving, because of the sales. Though I never end up going out, I just order online.
Primarily it's for my niece and nephews, which won't really apply this year because we're just going to get them giftcards. I'll have two two-week-olds to deal with by Thanksgiving, I won't have time to be out shopping around.
My sister sent me a link to a google doc with her family's lists and blank spaces for the rest of us on September 13
And then I recently spent a lot of time entering my ideas, which were good and I was excited about receiving some of, and then she emailed and said "Why don't we just do Secret Santa and spend $50-$100 on one person instead?" Which is no fun buying-wise or receiving-wise.
At least I still have my in-laws to exchange with.
