When I first moved to DC, as a 27-year-old single lady, lived in single ladies and pandas. Although, i first read it as single ladies with Pravda. Which I didn't have. Sad panda.
OMG. Are those bars still open? If anyone lived in DC a long time ago (like, 15 years ago) they may remember The Cellar as part of that area. The bar was literally underground.

I don't remember that one! I was there from 1999-2008.
Once I had a job at this really weird, really conservative law firm. One of the partners took me to lunch at Sign of the Whale on my first day. I don't know why he thought it was appropriate to take me to a welcome to the new office lunch at a place where you need to wear a condom to eat a hamburger.
Those herpes triangle bars were some of my favorites mid-20s. My bachelorette started at that Roman numerals bar at 18th/conn but definitely ended at rumors.

I think it was like 21 and M? It was on a corner, and you walked down these stairs underground to get to it, and I think they have since filled it in. It was the worst, it would have $5 all you could drink happy hour from like 5-9 and we would go and walk out at like 9 completely wasted and it would be like walking out of a cave. It was super cheesy. I think the Ritz is right near there now.

It's not the same place, but this reminded me of Tequila Grill and many, many drunken college nights in the basement.
Fortunately Recessions is still around for those who desire an underground drinking experience. The last time I was there a creepy old man tried to bring me and about 6 of my female colleagues to Morton's.
I worked across the street from recessions for a few years. Ah, memories.

Ozio's is where I discovered my favorite cocktail, the delicious French 75.
But I was usually too lazy and cheap to go out down there. I instead hit the Adams Morgan bars, from which I could walk home. It is amazing I was never found dead in Rock Creek Park.
When I felt like spending money on cab fare, my Herpes Triangle bar of choice was Lulu's. They had an 80s room!

Oh, yes, I remember that place. It was sort of catty corner from Lulu's.
The Madhatter moved I think and changed their menu.
I went to most of those during Grad School, they would have bar night every Thursday so I've been drunk at practically every bar in a two-mile radius of GW.

Fifth Column? That was a regular spot when we had just turned 21.
