Hi all, I thought I'd introduce myself since I just started posting. I'm Sarah, married with no kids (yet) in St. Louis. Gardening is my passion and every year, I do it up even bigger. I've been expanding my garden and yard and this year it has grown more than ever. The summer garden is going crazy and I'm already planning the fall garden. Here's what I have growing:
I'm worried about my gardens. I don't think real gardeners take 3 week vacations in the summer. But the weather shows we've had plenty of rain back home, and friends and family have offered to water as needed. I fertilized before we left, and Sluggo-ed and our other pests are pretty well in control.
For veg:
Tomatoes (only 8 plants this year, most excited to try "German stripe") Japanese eggplants (4) Thai eggplant White eggplant Purple bell pepper black Hungarian pepper Lemon cucumber Lettuce Chard Beets Snap peas Put bean and corn seeds in just before we left, cross your fingers
Herbs: Chocolate mint (safe in a pot!) Chives Oregano Sage Basil Rosemary
Fruit: Strawberries (my friends get this year's crop) blueberries (2nd year, don't know how many we'll get)
Eta: welcome! This is a pretty great group, lots of knowledge to share!
Where are you located? Half the stuff you mentioned would not be surviving here as they are cool weather crops... they were done a couple months ago!
I have a misting sprinkler that I use every day for 30 minutes in one place, then 30 in another. It gets all the garden except my herbs, which I water by hand. When I'm on vacation, my housesitter just turns on the sprinkler, moves it, and turns it on again and the plants survived really well. Funny, I got the sprinkler at Target for $2!
