Like - he's on the MTV awards show. His albums still sell. People still go to his shows. Radios still play his stuff. Clearly, the industry doesn't give a fuck if you beat up your girlfriend...b/c, hey! Money!
Right there with you. I loathe him. I chaneg the station as soon as his songs are played. I change the channel if he's on a show (MTV VMA's) or whatnot.
LOATHE. "He has anger issues." ^o) AWWWWWWWWWWW. Poor baby!
What I hate the most are all of the "he's young and made a dumb mistake, but he's talented so I forgive him" defenders (and I'm not even touching the "she shouldn't have pissed him off" apologists). He didn't get drunk and back his car through the garage door like a dumbass, ffs, he beat the shit out of his girlfriend. There isn't enough talent, youth, or lack of brain cells to excuse that, period.
Eeesh. It's not really her job to be the face of effectively handling domestic violence. This is maybe unfair judgment, right?
She didn't have to be the face of it but she could have not dated him again and acknowledged that he beat her.
Ok, but you realize that it is ALMOST ALWAYS that a DV victim goes back to her abuser, right? She acted in a way that's completely normal for people in abusive relationships.
I get disliking Rhianna. I dislike her for a number of reasons.
To dislike her because you judge the way in which she handled being beaten and then having her very private issues blasted all over the media for years on end says a lot more about you (the proverbial you, not a specific you) than it does about her.

Let's all be honest, you're aiming this at me.
I dislike her, you dislike me, and the world keeps on turning.
She didn't have to be the face of it but she could have not dated him again and acknowledged that he beat her.
but she ultimately left him again, right? and before he beat her to death. i don't care for her because i find her music/style to be incredibly annoying, but she was a victim. making her feel bad about that doesn't really send a great message to other potential victims, does it?
he is the scum of the earth. let's not cut him a break by placing any of that blame on his punching bag.
I think it would have done more good for her to come out and be honest about the struggle and show that DV is hard to leave.
DV is not a joke. I didn't have much respect for her before hand either but in a way, I thought she might speak out against it.

Um, I'm not.
I replied after I read LHC's "I hate them both" or whatever. I just didn't quote her. So....
Look, I'll apologize for saying what I did. Yes, you are right - it is an unfair judgement and there is a whole lot more that goes into it then just "Chris hit her, she left, the end".
I don't expect her to go on a one woman mission to end DV but I thought, as a celebrity, she would speak out against it. (Once she was done dating him, for good.) Considering how many teens follow her, I think it would have been a good thing.
We can disagree on the second paragraph.
ETA: Ok, the more I think about this thread, the bigger the asshole I feel. And rightly so, it was an asshole thing to say and I should have either not said it (best move) or specified about my feelings on how teens idolize and look up to celebrities. Instead, I said something stupid and kept arguing about it instead of conducting myself like an actual adult. I don't think DV is something to make light of, I don't think people who have been in these relationships deserve what happened, because no one deserves that. I, truthfully, am not big on celebrities in general and maybe I do hold them to some arbitrary standard about setting an example for their younger fans. And it is arbitrary because it is their life and they can choose to do what they want, just like Rihanna chose to not speak out about it. And as much as I dislike her in general, it wasn't fair to lay down a blanket statement as though she is some horrible person for not speaking out against it. Because it is my hang up of having the opinion that celebs should set examples.
It wasn't aimed at anybody, as I said. I responded with it after reading your response, not IN RESPONSE to you.
You didn't say you weren't aiming it at anyone. You said you weren't aiming it at Tricky, and then said you were responding to my post. But okay. Why bother saying it if you're not implying someone here holds that viewpoint?
This is what I said: To dislike her because you judge the way in which she handled being beaten and then having her very private issues blasted all over the media for years on end says a lot more about you (the proverbial you, not a specific you) than it does about her.
So yes, it was not aimed at a specific person. I read your response, and I responded in general. Not at any one poster.
But again - if you insist on making my opinion about you, that's fine with me.
