Some of you know that I work at a $$$$ private school.
This morning I am proctoring the SATs. Kids from all over can take them here, they just have to sign up for this test center. I only have one kid in the room that attends this school. The rest are from the city public schools.
It is heart breaking seeing them struggle. One didn't have a calculator when she came in, luckily my school has extras that we provide.
I just feel so badly because I keep thinking of what we have talked about on this board about college being an opportunity. But it is really striking when I see how the kids who have been prepped and prepared approach today versus the kids who haven't.
Children of college educated parents have an advantage over children without college educated parents. Having guidance thru the process (from SAT, applications, visits, choice of school, registration, etc etc.) can make a difference.
