One of our senior guys just sent something around to the group, a product promotion for 2014, with a comment at the bottom "Sponsored by Tampax"
Curious, I immediately opened it to see wth he was talking about. First page shows a spiral seashell (vag like?) and then it just got flowly and feminine.
So my rage boils up quickly, but I don't like this guy so maybe I was a bit biased? I was about to email him to say WTF, when I saw him walking down. So I asked him if he had lost his damn mind, and then told him I didn't think it was appropriate for a group email. He sent an apology to the group for the comment.
He made a bad joke about the promotional ad because it seemed feminine. I found it to be in very poor taste. Because feminine = tampons, ya know.
We are very loose around here with inappropriate things, it's like a frat house at times, so I'm used to hearing things, trust me. But my gut reaction on this was No, ew, ew, ew, no.
I get the fratty environment but sometimes saying something, and writing it down are two different things. -Says the queen of the 13 year old boy humor
Aren't you one of very few women in your office? I think you have to be a hard ass about things like this.
My department had hired a lot of women since I started. I was the second 2.5 years ago, now there are 10, almost 1/3 of the group. Other departments in the company aren't as diverse.
Ah, ok. Agreed! I am generally the decider of the "line" and when it gets crossed, but this was beyond any that's what she said joke that's ever been dropped. I'm curious to see if my boss says anything tomorrow. He was heading out to a meeting when the emails went out so I'm not sure he even saw.
