First of all, this story is crazy confusing as written. The woman came to the homeowner's front door, but somehow wound up shot in the back of the head? And her body was found somewhere, as in the homeowner did not immediately call the police after shooting her?
Second of all, I used to live in this area. The article calling Dearborn Heights a "white neighborhood" really rubs me the wrong way. I'm not denying that this homeowner was potentially a trigger-happy racist, but calling Dearborn Heights or the surrounding area a "white neighborhood" is inaccurate.

It read to me like they thought her body was dumped in Dearborn Heights after she was killed elsewhere in Detroit. And yes, she was knocking on someone's door and leaving the property when she was shot in the back of the head. Which doesn't sound like self defense at all.
According to my TV crime drama education, shooting someone in the back means it's not self defense because they were leaving. That's probably wrong!

Shooting someone in the back of the head is NOT self defense. Someone with their back to you poses no threat because you have the upper hand.
This person shot this woman needlessly. (Not that there is a need to shoot anyone. period.)

There was shooting here yesterday, domestic incident and I was just reading the FB comments. I am so disgusted at the ignorant rude comments people posted. I shouldn't be surprised considering where I live. The main topic f discussion was how ugly the alleged shooter was. Not sure how they expected her too look in jail wearing a suicide suit. They posted the 911 call a little while ago but took it down due to complaints and I am so glad. These simple minded morons don't need anything else to feed off of.

shostakovich it IS a predominantly white area, though. I'm an east sider so I looked it up to be sure, but 86% of people there identified as White in the last census.

Yeah, you're right. I guess the idea of calling any neighborhood white or black or whatever is irksome to me. Which is probably me being naive. The Daily Mail practically invented pot-stirring, so I shouldn't be surprised. But I think it's a cheap tactic.
And it does seem like a weird sequence of events and tons of missing info. I don't know what to think about this.
Oh and the Dearborn heights stats kind of surprised me as well. I thought it was more Arabic there, like Dearborn.
I'm not dismissing racism as a cause but I'm not sure from the info given.
I'll admit, where I live, I would not be pleased to have any stranger show up at the door at 340 am, esp after our recent break ins. I'd call police though if anything seemed amiss. (Though I bet they'd show up faster in Dearborn heights than our locale)

There's no separate designation on the forms, so anyone of Arab descent has to check "White."
I still think that's a relatively small percentage in Dearborn Heights, though, especially as compared to regular Dearborn. I also have a feeling that the "wealthy" descriptor is also in comparison to the surrounding areas.
