I'm from Boston, the schools here can't bring kids out to recess if it's below 32 degrees Where are you? You mentioned 44 as the high. It'll likely be lower. I'm not sure. If my child was all super pumped about going I'd bundle she shit out of them and give the teacher tissues for the inevitable nose run, and say have fun. If my child didn't really care, I may be inclined to see if there was an alternative. Any time any of my kids had field trips there was always a place in the school for the kids who, for one reason or another, weren't going on the field trip so it wasn't a matter of having to stay home with them if they didn't go. They still went to school, just not the field trip, see.
I'm super anxious so I never allowed my kids to attend field trips while still at the car seat/booster seat age. (Preschool etc) I'm not trusting someone else to properly use the car seat (I know they aren't hard but there is room for error so I'm all set)
Tough call Good luck
Really?! I'm south of Boston and my son's school said dress weather appropriately because they have recess outside unless it's a)pouring or b) the windchill recommends staying indoors.
lol yes. I don't think your "schools here" assessment is accurate cinnamon. Seriously its under 32 degrees for 6 months of the year. Do they never go outside?
Yeah. But I am a Masshole so 44 is totally doable and wouldn't bother my kid. If this was in say like FLa or somethign then I may have a different answer
Of course! But our zoo is open in the winter and we always go in December or January. They have fire pits outside and you can drink hot chocolate to warm up. But I like winter!
Unless it is pouring rain. I would send the kid!
Lol! We are the opposite here! Snowing?Keep everyone home and safe! Rain? Get the eff outside, you won't melt!!

C's daycare (he's 3) takes the kids outside unless it's pouring or below 28 degrees. Upstate NY also considers 44 balmy. Look at it this way, they'll probably sleep great tonight after all that time in the brisk air!
Ok good. I'm glad to hear so many yes answers. I'm really nervous that I'm going to have parents who were suppose to be chaperones back out because of the weather.
For clarification: we are in PA, 44 is cold to me because I'm always cold, but not for the area. However, a lot of my students are not originally from here and are use to warmer climates- so I have students showing up to school in 2 turtlenecks, a sweater, and a jacket when the high is 50 because to their parents that's pretty cold.

I'm in Texas. 44 is really cold. Many of the kids here don't even own heavy coats because it is so rarely cold. I took a group of my students to Six Flags last year in Oct. and it was probably around 50 degrees and so many of my kids were only wearing hoodies. They were so cold all day. If it was 44 they would have come home with frostbite! We're wimps about cold.
absolutely would send them. the zoo is awesome in the fall. animals are way more active, and it isn't miserably hot and smelly. And the crowds? What crowds? NO ONE is there (because most people only go when it is super hot....why, I have no idea), so it is probably my favorite time to go.
Send a coat, hat, and mittens, and tell her to have a good time.
I grew up in northern NY. We played in the snow banks for recess until 20 degrees and that bary felt cold. Iivw in FL now and 44 is bone chilling cold to me. It depends on where you live and the humidity. But I'd still send my kid. They're resilient and they move around a lot to stay warm.

haha at the frostbite
I am from Texas as well but I think any logical person is going to have a heavy jacket in cold conditions. If they don't bring a heavy jacket then that's on them.
