I hate how the only light bulbs that are now dimmable in Germany are prohibitively expensive because the EU banned the old light bulbs that were bad for the environment. Even IKEA stopped selling dimmers.
Also, I have a friend who sells light bulbs and swears that even though LED lights are more expensive, they are totally worth the investment because they last like 20 years.
That concludes all of my possible contributions to any conversation on the topic of light bulbs.
Oh, and if one breaks, don't vacuum it up if you're pregnant because you could put mercury dust in the air. That's it.

Same in NL (well, except for really super low wattage lamps, which you don't even want to dim) It's driving me nutso, as when you accidentally put a non dimmable bulb in a dimmable lamp, it starts to flicker and gives me a headache.
We have dimmers on most of our lights and we don't have old bulbs! Yup we're cool...NL Foodie you have to make to to the next Lux GTG that way to can see our dimming coolness :-P
I'll need to, most def - and not just because of dimming coolness! But do you just buy the crazy expensive dimmable bulbs, or leds, or halogen or or or??? I wanna knoooooow!

I don't know what they are, some are spots and some are tube lights, I'd have to ask DH but I bet I couldn't tell you his response after he gave it to me!
I've never had a dimmable light bulb in my entire life. Am I missing something awesome?
Depends on the way the lights are in your rooms. I wish we had a dimmer in our living room because we only have the overhead fixture, and it's either on and hospital bright, or off and dark. But if we had nice table/floor lamps, there would be no need for a dimmer.

To be perfectly frank, yes, you are. ;-)
I like it in the evening when we're just lazing around drinking a glass of wine. At my parents' it has also been very convenient when we're adjusting to the time and DD gets up in the middle of the night. I get up with her but only turn the lights on very low so she gets the hint that it's not actually time to get up. Don't know if it helps her adjust, but it definitely helps my eyes and head not to be blasted with light at 1am.

I have one of those slow-start energy bulbs in my bedroom. I hate the thing. Who came up with the dumb slow-start idea? I bought it because it was bulb-shaped instead of the weird spirally fluorescent kind, but I hate waiting for it to brighten up.
Hey, if I have a ceiling light with two bulbs, and there's a low-energy bulb on one side and a regular bulb on the other, it won't cause problems, right?

In our bathroom we have the choice of a fluorescent light that flickers when it comes on and takes about 3-5 seconds (which is quite a while when you're standing in the bathroom door waiting for it to come on), and then one of those slow-starting energy bulbs above the sink. They both drive me crazy. I want normal light bulbs.
