I don't really get why any time someone comes here to talk about their SO's affair, the advice is go get tested for STDs. What is the rush to get tested? Is there a health benefit to finding out early? Or do you think it will help them make the decision to stay/leave if they know if they now have a STD? I'm just curious.

Yeah I might need the STD talk I guess. I didn't think they were something you can "cure". I also didn't think doctors would treat an STD if you have no symptoms. Obviously I have never had a STD.
This is all based on the assumption the poster has no symptoms. If they had symptoms of a STD then of course they should go to the doctor right away.
Yes, I'm sure everyone would want to get tested eventually to have the piece of mind that they don't have a STD. But some people seem to recommend it is the first step, even before a lawyer. I don't get the rush.

Seriously? Chlamydia is completely curable with antibiotics, often has no symptoms, and can do permanent damage to a woman's reproductive system. I find it hilarious that you think doctors wouldn't treat it if there were no symptoms.

OK, I know that there are MANY people who have STDs and don't have symptoms. What I am unsure of is whether a doctor would treat someone for a STD they tested positive for, but had no symptoms. I guess it depends on what STD they have?

Are you serious? I need to know what school district you were in for middle and high school please so I can be double sure my kids don't go there. And I think you should post your mom's phone number so we can call her too since no one in the world ever told you anything about STDs. Jeez.
Some are curable, some are not but you should seek treatment early anyway. HIV for example, if that goes untreated you'll get sick and die but with treatment it can prolong your life significantly. I've never had an STD either but I know shit.

Have you heard of the lovely symptomless diseases called HIV and HPV?

yes. many stds have little to no symptoms.
i hope this is not offensive, but i am genuinely curious, were you home schooled and/or did you grow up very religious?

If you test positive for an STD that means you have an STD, even if you don't have symptoms. If you have and STD you will be treated for your STD.

What in the fuck? Do your doctors normally not treat you for diseases? I don't understand this. "Oh I have stage 1 cancer? Well I don't have any symptoms yet so fuck this prescription"
