I buy groupons etc for some people (golf for Fil etc).
Ditto pp with Swagbucks. I have made about $300 this year since I started doing it so that has helped greatly.
I also use any giftcards I have to buy presents.
I mentioned in another thread last week that I have reduced our Christmas shopping from about $1000 to $350 using these tips. Also I shop all year so that I take advantage of sales/offers that I see.
- Buy gift cards at Kroger for the fuel points (you get at least 2x the points on gift cards) with my AmEx so i get AmEx points, too - Use AmEx points to shop on Amazon for gifts - Take our change to coinstar for an Amazon GC
I joke that people can only request items sold by Amazon
I start paying attention to sales early so I can grab things when they're at a decent price. I check Ebates before I order anything online. I use my cash back card as much as possible.
I only buy gifts for DD ( and any gift exchanges :-P ) but I look around all year for items she would like on sale. I tried to save money on her friends' birthday presents by doing the same thing and now it turns out most of her friends aren't having parties this year. Whomp whomp.
We're doing kids only this year. And my BIL's kids are ungrateful brats so they get $20 and a $10 iTunes gc I either get discounted at target or rewards bucks from cvs.

I buy things on sale whenever possible. For example, I just ordered DH's gift from Amazon at 56% off. It was around the same price at a local chain store a few weeks ago but its location is out of the way so I was hoping for an online sale.
I also combine sales with ebates, airmiles and cc point offers whenever possible. I typically use these to save on other gifts throughout the year. I just used our cc points to pay for over half of our upcoming vacation!
We cut way down on gifts for adults - we each have 3 siblings, and on both sides we agreed it's kind of silly to trade gifts among adults when half of the wishlists are "gift card". We trade names among the kids and then parents buy for everyone, and we all buy for parents.
I make my lists early and shop around. I already got the books I wanted for three kids on my list for 30% off (I See Me books, $40 normal price) and got dd an American girl doll for $50 through Jill's steals and deals.
I save my cash back from my one credit card to offset gifts costs. I have $400ish I think I'll turn in on my next bill
My family is doing secret santa this year -- so instead of buying gifts for 4 adults, we'll be buying for one (with a limit of around $100, which is less than what we normally spend on each adult). That will be a huge savings!
We also don't tend to get gifts for each other, but I think this year we may.
I picked one gift exchange this year (MM) and skipped the five others I would have liked to do.
I also use this time of year to save money on things we need around the house. Our toaster oven just broke, so I bought one at Kohl's for $14 (on sale for $19.99, plus a 30% off code). I'll also get pillows for just a few bucks on Black Friday.
