I was given compazine the first time I ever had a migraine. I had this crazy reaction to it when my whole body clenched uncontrollable and I couldn't relax. I even list it on my drug allergies so I'm not given anything like it again.
My mom took it when she was sick and it was very effective for her.
Phenergan is an anti-histamine, and has some weak anti psychotic properties but is not prescribed as an antipsychotic. I am not familiar with compazine, I hope it works for you.
My ob prescribed compazine for my migraines while I was pregnant. I've only had to take it about 8 times (I'm currently 27 weeks) and I haven't really had any issues except it makes me sleepy. That could be from the migraine itself though. All ultrasounds and test also indicate a healthy and perfect baby boy so I don't think the pill is causing him much harm either.
According to the Google, this is used for nausea -- and also is an anti-psychotic. wtf?
Yes and yes.
I was given it for nausea once. Not a good scene. For a small number of people it causes your muscles to tense up and lock, interferes with your volitional control (you can't move yourself) and messes with your head. Have you seen the movie Awakenings with Robin WIlliams? Years ago? About what used to be called "catatonic schizophrenia"? Yeah. Basically it was like that. I could walk and move if given a task to accomplish (shuffle to the car to the ER. shuffle to the triage desk.) but otherwise I was twisted up like a pretzel flamingo and couldn't move. Neat insight into psychosis.
Take home message: if at any point you think "hey! I think this might be what lock jaw feels like" head to the hospital and get some benadryl.
It's the best anti- nausea med I have ever been on. It's seriously a miracle drug. Sadly, after a year of talking it about once a week, they made me change to zofran. I guess long term use can cause permanent shakes.
