I just gave ds2 (7 months) a dose and a half of Motrin. He hasn't had any meds in weeks. Do I need to call the doctor? DH says its ok, but I'm freaking myself out.
My pedi actually told me there is a "dr dose" that is about 50% higher than the regular dose and told me to use it for D when she was younger. I think he's okay
Ok. He had a little more than 10mg/kg. I called poison control and the guy seemed unimpressed. He said they don't worry until a kid drinks half the bottle. Thanks, everyone!

I love poison control. They hear everything so it's hard to phase them.
I imagine poison control as this one guy, all by himself in a little office at a county bldg, kinda looks like Napoleon dynamites brother, with a red stapler, just wishing that the next call was "impressive"

A few years ago, DH did some research using data from California poison control (they have a big pool of safety information for various drugs if you run the stats). I'll ask him :-) He said most of their calls were "Um, so I "accidentally" took too much of X or Y. What will happen?" That were clearly from people who stole things from grandma's medicine cabinet. They wanted to know what it was, if it could get them high or resell on the street, and how much they could take.
It sounds like you're ok. For future reference, it's apparently pretty hard to OD on ibuprofen, but MUCH easier than expected to OD on acetaminophen (Tylenol). This American Life just did an episode on it and it was downright terrifying.
He should be fine. There is the dose on the bottle, and the dose a doctor may prescribe, which is a bit higher than what's on the bottle. It's like adult ibuprofen. It wouldn't hurt to call, but I would just watch him closely, and hope he is feeling better soon
