I have to confess that I am guilty of writing on a deceased person's wall.
And now I'm going to attempt to defend myself.
He was a great friend of mine since we were little kids. Before he passed away, the last conversation that we had was an argument via text where he told me that we couldn't be friends because I was getting married. Months later, I broke up with the guy I was engaged to and resented the fact that I lost a friend because of someone I didn't actually marry. Not only did I lose his friendship, but I lost the chance to ever be his friend again. Also, this was 3 years ago when I started actually seeing real life and that it's not all roses and daisies.
Whew! I fell better getting that off my chest!
I agree that it's dumb to write on a dead person's wall and it annoys me too, but I can't knock people for doing it because I did it once.
Everyone has their own process of grieving. If writing on a deceased friend/family member's wall will help you feel a connection with them, and maybe even help you find closure, have at it.
Fortunately, I have not been in this situation, so I can't say how I would react IRL.

I express my condolonscences on the person's FB page since their family is probably controlling the page after the person if deceased. I did this on FB and on the funeral home's website for my classmate that killed himself not too long ago.
my cousins write on their deceased dads wall like he still alive its weird but I dont judge if my dad had a facebook I would probably write on his wall too
I once wrote on a friends myspace wall after she committed suicide
