Hmmmm I think since the iPods give you the software it would be okay (right? do they still do that? like you plug it in and it brings you to the download site?).
Also you don't HAVE to go through iTunes, you can import mp3 music from Amazon etc (where it is often cheaper) or for the archaic people who still buy CDs, you can still put that music on there.
I think AE might be too big. I would look at Hollister, and MAYBE Justice. I don't know if Justice is too young though?
I am no help for the iPod.
Oh I forgot about Hollister. Or perhaps I blocked it out because I think they're one of those stores that plays loud music and hoses down their store with cologne. I'll make sure to go when I'm stuffed up and bring ear plugs. lol
I went to Hollister once to look at their jeans. I asked the size0 15yr old girl where the 9/11s were and she looked alllllllll the way at the top of the stack and shrugged.
Yeah, okay. Serves me right for trying to buy odd-sized clothes.

I would get the least expensive iPod. If you sign up for AE emails, you can get some stuff super cheap. They will probably have a 50% off or more online black Friday sale with free shipping.
I think I would get the iPod. I think the Nano would be great because it's tiny and that's cool.
My cousin's daughter just turned 13, and her favorite clothing store is Aeropostale. A few years ago, it was Pac Sun. I just love going into theses places and feeling like an Old while I buy gift cards. lol
eta Oh wait, I think it was Hollister, not Pac Sun.
I was going to suggest Aeropostale, too. DD is 13 and just discovered this store. She's hard to fit, because she's so skinny, and her taste in clothes is more grown-up than her body. Until recently I was getting her jeans from ON, because they have the adjustable waists. I'd also look at American Eagle. She likes that store, too, but I'm not sure how well their jeans fit her. As far as the MP3 player, I'd get her a Walkman like PP suggested. I got one of those for DD a few years ago. It may have changed since then, but the research I did said that if you have an Ipod, you need to have Itunes, because it's the only music management system that works for the Ipod. I didn't want her to be tied to Itunes like that, so I got her the Walkman.
