My friend's place is on HGTV website right, how exciting! He bought this typical new construction suburb-ish house a few years ago and a local designer fixed it up - it was very stylized then. Black wall paper, red lacquered deer heads, green vinyl couch with white piping. It was really unique and interesting (very masculine). This year he found out his house was being selected as a HGTV Holiday Home for 2013 and the same designer and his team came in and re-did everything. I love the new style and I'm very excited for my friend.
PS - he's so funny. I just asked him where the topiaries by the fireplace came from and he asked "what's a topiary?"
His deck renovation from earlier this year
AH, I finally found pics of when his place was designed the first time around, in 2009, by the same designer. I definitely prefer the 2013 design!

The kitchen tile is NMS, but it works and I can see why the designer went that direction. I looooove the fireplace. Like, I want to go sit there for a long time with a book. Or six.
I'm only going to comment on the kitchen for now. I like the color on the cabinets, I like the hardware, I loathe the tile all over the walls. It's too much.
ooh, I love the bath and living room the most. That's cool that your friend was featured. I also love that he hired a decorator and just went with all of it even though it sounds like he doesn't know all the things.

I love the fireplace and living room. I had to go back and forth to make sense of it being the same room! I'm not a fan of the kitchen. The cabinets are good but there is too much tile (and very busy tile) for my taste.
I kind of dig the kitchen. I thought the walls were wallpaper? Regardless, that's not my favorite part, but I like the rest. I love the bath, although the thought of cleaning all the grout in that subway tile gives me heebie-jeebies.
I do not like the fireplace or the art work next to it. I feel like designers are always refacing fireplaces to make them look like modern show pieces and it's just NMS.
I really like the 2013 update; the previous decor really does some across as very masculine.
I love the living room the most. The kitchen is great too, but the walls (whether tile or wallpaper) is too busy for my taste. It's really an amazingly well done home!
Does your friend have any idea where stuff was from?
Ha! I could ask him, but probably not. He's supposed to be finding out where the topiaries came from for me, but I wouldn't be surprised if he forgets. ;-)
