This is probably the stupidest question. We here in America put up decorations after thanksgiving. Well unless we live in 'Murrica then we put them up around Halloween and leave them up until St. Patricks day. Since the Canadians have thanksgiving in October without Yams and marshmallows do you guys have a date before which Christmas decorations are forbidden?
I've never heard of an actual date. Most people try and get the outdoor stuff up before it gets too cold, though. Some are up already and just not turned on. I think for indoor stuff most wait until the end of November/beginning of December. Unless you're like a friend of mine who is a freak and already has her home all kitted out.

Anything after Remembrance Day is usually ok. I usually try to put up my outside decorations on a nice day in November but usually don't turn any lights on until December 1st. The tree and indoor decorations are anytime after December 1st.
When you find time between polar bear riding and igloo building, you put up your tree and lights. Simple as that.
For an outdoor ed class in high school I went on a cross country ski trip and had to build a quinzee (like an igloo, but you make a huge pile of snow and hollow it out). I had to sleep in it overnight.
Most people put them up december 1st. But mid-novembre is fair game I think. The stores put them up on November 1st as they take down the Halloween stuff.
The thing that I find really different (and it might be just my province) is that NOBODY would ever take their Christmas decorations down before january 3rd. You have to leave them for the entire holidays, which go up to New Year Day. Most people leave them till january 6th.

I love your novembre. Do you guys have Pere Noel too? That may be all I really remember from high school French class. I also remember that the 12 days of Christmas were really important which probably explains the January 3rd decorations.

I like to put mine up for November 25th so I get one month until Christmas. That being said, we've had snow a couple of times already, so they may go up this weekend. As soon as the snow is down, I want Christmas everywhere.
On the exterior of the house I usually leave mine up until February 1st honestly. They are not super Christmassy (big blue and silver balls) and they look nice in the winter and I don't like climbing over the snowbank to get at the ones I hang on the tree outside. White Christmas lights stay on all winter (yes - I'm that person). It's dark.
