This is my first year on a health plan with a deductible. I have an HRA (health reimbursement account) that my employer funds for the amount of the deductible.
I had a doctor's appointment in October.
I paid nothing at appointment.
Doctor sends bill to insurance. Insurance adjusts it and I get the EOB that says I owe $208 to the provider. $208 is automatically direct deposited into my checking account from my HRA.
Do I now wait for the provider to bill me for the $208? Do I call the provider and proactively offer it up?
However, that is not how the HRAs work with the administrator we use.
Basically, everyone gets a debit card at the beginning of the plan year and can pay at the point of service, like at the pharmacy, or wait and get a bill from the dr. and fill in the cc info on the bill stub thing with the HRA card number etc, and the amount is deducted from the account. Or a person can pay the bill in full on their own, and submit a claim for reimbursement of the funds.
