Could you do 5 passed appetizers, 5 buffet items, and a cash bar? I'd happily pay to get liquored up if I was a guest. This way, you get the benefit of everyone being able to walk around and socialize all they want.

The food and party would be free otherwise, so I don't think anyone would complain.

I picked C.  I think a few glasses of wine is suitable for a birthday party.  I don't foresee myself getting trashed at such an event.  Booze is never wrong, so I would be fine with D, but I don't think it is necessary.

Like others, I picked D not only for the extra booze but also for the mingling.

However, given your update, I would not mind paying for my own drinks in that situation. I think it's nice when drinks are included, but I also think it's enough for you to provide food. 

If you did wine or a specialty drink, would there also be a cash bar? Because I wouldn't want to have to limit myself to merely a drink or two. I don't get out much, ok?

For me, 7 pm is too late for dinner. It is, however, an excellent time to start drinking and enjoy some snacks. Or what you call "appetizers," which is confusing in this situation since appetizers are served before a meal.

Cash bar is available for all of the non-open-bar options.

And the cocktails at this restaurant are particularly good.

Little piece of trivia -- for those of you who watch The New Girl, this is the restaurant that Winston so desperately tried to get a reservation for but was unable to do so and, instead, camped out at the communal tables until the rest of the gang showed up.

It always sucks when that large a group gets together because you actually have to get there early enough to claim your seat because everyone wants to sit with the birthday boy. Then he hasn't arrived and then you're all WHERE WILL HE SIT.
