I actually really like the bottom one, although I think you need to do something to finish the ends of the ribbon. I also think it's super sweet of you to help with this.
I agree, the bow is too much. Love the colors though! You need a little more at the top. What about some greens to give it a backdrop??
Also do you have floral tape? Use that to bundle your branches together and then wrap that with the ribbon at the base. This will disguise the pin when you need to attach it to their lapel. (Old Wedding planner checking in.)
I don't love the brown star anise against the charcoal. Could you spray paint them black? The shape/texture would still give effect is the same as the bouquet, but I'm thinking it will probably look better black against the groomsmen's jackets. (Assuming they're black.)
That is a definite possibility, I thought about spray painting them, but wasn't sure what color. I think the tuxes are gray... But I can't remember.
Do you feel the same if I tell you most of the little stick things are also brown/wood?
The stick part of the berries is fine being brown. I agree with spray painting the anise.

I like the shapes in the first one, but am agreeing with everyone above that your ribbon is out of proportion and the Anise needs to go. Can you have no green? A piece of fresh fern would make these really nice.

Instead of doing a bow, can you wrap the bottom of the boutonniere with the ribbon? I would worry a loop would look to much like a cancer awareness thing.

The bottom is wrapped in ribbon. ETA you can maybe see it in the second one. lol I might try a smaller bow with narrower ribbon? Ugh. I don't know. Or yeah, just leave the bow off entirely.
janiejones - I'm trying to avoid making it look Christmas-y, which is why I didn't include any green. Would white/cream help, instead of green?
The anise is so not my choice. lol The bride is all about it, and I'm not sure how else to incorporate it.
I'm so not creative enough for this. I'm out of my league!!!
Not true. I think this is a great first test run and you got some good ideas above.

Can you get a smaller anise and put it up with the berries? Like on a stick? I think it's just too big for the proportions of the rest of the boutonniere.
