My kid has developmental delays. His speech delay is considered severe.
He's really math minded. He's great with numbers and spatial stuff. Reading though... he gets frustrated and says it is too hard and refuses. That's fine. I assumed he had a few sight words and he'd catch on to reading in his own time.
Parent teacher conference tonight. She went over the reading assessment stuff, and I about fell out of my chair. Turns out, he can read, and very well at that. She said she noticed he was struggling to form the words, so she wrote a story out on a piece of paper and asked him to read it and draw a picture about it. My kid isn't saying reading is hard. He's saying TALKING is hard. He can't get the words from his brain to his mouth. He can read them and understand them but he can't say them.

I know, I know. It's irrational. I will feel better about it tomorrow. We see a neurologist Friday so I am hoping that we might finally get some kind of answer about why he's struggling the way he is.
