I'm working on DH's Christmas list. Normally I get him a toy of some sort. Remote control helicopter, super soaker water gun (he shoots at bugs while sitting in the hot tub), etc.
This year I'm trying to think of something that he could do with DS, or that may be more fun because we now have DS. He will only be 9 months come Christmas, but I thought asking for suggestions would be worth a shot.
DH can't wait until DS is old enough to work on Lego projects. I foresee a Lego pirate ship in the future, but not for a few years.

What about a set of blocks? Nine months is a good age for knocking down towers. My husband liked to see how fast he could build something interesting before it got destroyed.
Mega blocks are a great idea. We have also made a tradition of the kids getting DH a book each Christmas/ birthday. Ones that he liked as a kid (if you give a mouse a cookie, nursery rhymes, etc).
My DH won't have anything to do with MegaBlocks. Lego all the way. If yours is like mine, I'd stick with one of the (few) 1+ Duplo sets.
I might let DH handle swimming lessons next year. That was the one class he was interested in participating in with DD.
Does your DH like biking? We just bought a seat that mounts in front of DH for DD so he can take her biking. He is super excited. He bought her a helmet himself already
The Melissa and Doug block sets are fun - the arches, posts, etc. are more appealing to adults (and will grow with DS better) than square blocks. I think every member of my family likes playing with these with our nephews - build up and knock down, driving Matchbox cars through the arches and around posts (and then knocking them down), and building with them on their own when they were old enough. Your DS might still be too young for it this year, but keep it in mind for next year. I know every kid is different, but my nephews were fine playing with these at age two as long as they were supervised. And honestly before age 3, they weren't really building with them anyway, just knocking down the towers we would build.
DH doesn't like loud, crazy places like children's museums. We went this AM and decided we always need to go right when they open. I can't see him taking DS there alone for a few years.
I will poke around online and see if I can find any classes they might be interested. A building set - Duplo or other would probably be the best idea.
Wood blocks or duplos are fun. DS still plays with his duplos, he is actually building towers with them now as they build up faster than his Lego, which he has a ridiculous amount of. The small pieces are still technically safe but DS could get a whole single block in his mouth. We always played together with them and discouraged chewing on blocks. We do have some mega blocks mixed in but more for the cool accessories. The Lego store has some good basic sets with some wheels and windows. Definitely get a large green plate or two if you get duplos. We lucked out and got three in a huge box of Duplos I bought from someone at work for $20, they are at least $10 a piece
