I've got nothing left to report. What do I do now??? I'll take a break for a couple of weeks, and then I'm running a half in January, so I'll need to start training for that after Thanksgiving.
Oh, and I've totally started planning next year's marathon(s). I was researching potential races on-line yesterday.
I'm so excited your race is here! Can't wait to hear all about it. You will rock it with all those MP runs you've been having!
I'm always scheming for my next big race. Boston in the Spring, and if I can get in, MCM in the Fall. Repeat over and over until i want to try something new DH and I are signing up for the Myrtle Beach half too.
Yay I have time to play again! Good luck @vtcupcake and biomaj5!! You guys are going to be amazing.
- When is your marathon? Houston 1/19
-How is training going so far? Any highlights or concerns to report? Pretty decent, really. I think I'm *fingers crossed* on track to hit my goals this time around. So far, anyway. Lots of speed work. I kind of ranted in the weekend workouts thread about working around interviews, and that is getting pretty tiring. I know that I'm really really lucky to even have enough of them to need to work around, but damn y'all. This process is exhausting. I'm hoping last week was the worst of it.
-What will you say in your victory speech when you cross the finish line? Lol I hope I'll put out enough that I'm too winded for a speech by the time I finish. But also, untold thanks to my amazing husband, who thinks that it's totally awesome that I'm trying to learn be a doctor and also train for multiple marathons at the same time. I think many spouses would just be annoyed at the time suck.
-Who has had any running casualties (in memory of grk2012's pinky toenail...) this cycle? What have you done to heal up? Lost two toenails before Chicago. Right now I'm having some excessive soreness in my left hip flexors. I'm trying to get better about foam rolling and stretching and I'm due for a massage.
-Where have the past 17 weeks gone off to? Time has totally flown by. Name one thing that you're looking forward to that's going to happen during this marathon training cycle. Christmas! And my birthday! I'm seriously like a 5 year old about these things.
-Why am I already thinking of a **next** marathon? I haven't even run my first one yet. I think I just enjoy the company too much in this weekly thread Name one race that's on your long term forecast. I really really want to do London someday. It's my favorite city (thus far) so obvs I need to spend 3-4 hours running through it.
Thank you! Your marathon sounds like it's going to be fantastic!
When is your marathon? Sunday funday! Yay! Rt 66 Marathon in Tulsa
How is training going so far? Any highlights or concerns to report? The outside of my right foot hurts sometimes when I run. I'm rolling my feet on a tennis ball after runs, but otherwise I'm ignoring it because it's too late now.
What will you say in your victory speech when you cross the finish line? Dude, where's the chocolate milk?! Give it to me now! (I have a friend going with me, and I'm going to ask her to hold some muscle milk for me)
Who has had any running casualties (in memory of grk2012's pinky toenail...) this cycle? What have you done to heal up? I will lose the 2nd toenail on my right foot, but not right now. It's been trying to come off since September and is taking its time. I've had some IT band issues but they are manageable if I keep up with foam rolling.
Where have the past 17 weeks gone off to? Time has totally flown by. Name one thing that you're looking forward to that's going to happen during this marathon training cycle. The marathon? lol. That's all that's left to look forward to I'm taking next week off from work for vacation, so I'm looking forward to that too.
Why am I already thinking of a **next** marathon? I haven't even run my first one yet. I think I just enjoy the company too much in this weekly thread Name one race that's on your long term forecast. Ha! In terms of big races, I am scheduled out to 2015 right now lol. I have a deep and abiding love of schedules. 2014: OKC Memorial Marathon, April 27 SoS Half, Oct 5 Rt66 marathon, probably Nov 23
2015: Cowtown Ultramarathon, Feb 22 Maybe OKC Memorial marathon, not sure if I'll be recovered from the ultra, late April SoS half, Oct Maybe Rt66 again, or perhaps I'll be brave and find a new race
Many congrats to our most recent marathoners, and best wishes to cupcake & biomaj this weekend...eeeeeeee!
My marathon is on 12/8 - 2weeks 6days
Training was not great. Missed 3 big huge weekends. 20 miles hurt. My most recent pace run hurt (though I did it and the last 2 miles were 8:40 (aiming for 8:55/9 on pace runs). not sure if that bodes well or was just a fluke).
I will likely say "I'm never doing that shit again."
Running casualties: my double thick toenail seems to be getting thicker, ha! It's so gnarly.
I'm looking forward to taper, and I'm glad it's here! I'm never happy to see taper!
Long term forecast: my next marathon will be in Ironman Texas!! It will not be my fastest I did enter the NYCM sweepstakes, lol. Fat chance.
Eeeeeek!!! I cannot believe it's finally your week! So flippin excited for you. I cannot wait to hear about it. I'll take the MMM thread for you next week. Also a huge good luck to biomaj5!
When is your marathon? Town of Celebration Marathon 1/26/14
How is training going so far? Any highlights or concerns to report? Really well. I'm loving Pfitz's plan. It has the type of speed work I really enjoy, and I really missed those long mid-week runs. Consistent 10-12 milers during the week will get challenging time wise, but with the plan only being 12 weeks (10 at this point!), it's easier to wrap my head around. I'm feeling cautiously optimistic. The way I've been running/feeling since Chicago really is confirming that it was simply a bad race for me.
What will you say in your victory speech when you cross the finish line? Hopefully it will be something along the lines of Boston bound!
Who has had any running casualties (in memory of grk2012's pinky toenail...) this cycle? What have you done to heal up? I lost two nails after Chicago. The skin is painted to disguise the horror. It was kind of nice not having them for my half. lol
Where have the past 17 weeks gone off to? Time has totally flown by. Name one thing that you're looking forward to that's going to happen during this marathon training cycle. I have a half on 12/28 that I really want to kill. In a perfect world, I'd love to be able to go sub-1:40, but knowing that's crazy ambitious (especially since my legs will be tired from marathon training. No taper.) I would be thrilled with anything in the 1:40 range.
Why am I already thinking of a **next** marathon? I haven't even run my first one yet. I think I just enjoy the company too much in this weekly thread Name one race that's on your long term forecast. I WILL run San Francisco one day. (Not Nike.) I just have to get to the point where I'm OK not PR-ing....because that's not happening for this FL runner in San Fran.
When is your marathon? Got a half this weekend - but my full is not until April 6th (Paris Marathon)
How is training going so far? Any highlights or concerns to report? Ran further on my long run than planned on Saturday, with a small hangover. Was in Ireland to watch rugby and took my run gear with me to get up and I surprised myself by actually doing it! AND adding on 2 miles (mostly because I was a little bit lost.)
What will you say in your victory speech when you cross the finish line? Why is my champagne hand empty??
Who has had any running casualties (in memory of grk2012's pinky toenail...) this cycle? What have you done to heal up? No injuries for me, but I'm in the beginning phase of trainig, so there is plenty of time to do myself a mischief!
Name one thing that you're looking forward to that's going to happen during this marathon training cycle. Keep toning up and looking better than I have in..., maybe ever?.
Why am I already thinking of a **next** marathon? I haven't even run my first one yet. I think I just enjoy the company too much in this weekly thread Name one race that's on your long term forecast. Long term, I don't know - will probably check out the prettiest marathons in europe and do some of them. I love Scandinavia and it is generally flat, so I reckon Sweden might beckon.
Also, @vtcupcake I could take over the MMM posting - though I am really new to marathons and will probably ask random, irrelevant and stupid questions - plus I spell things the British way, which can be annoying, sorry! I am however five hours a ahead of most of you so I can kick it off first thing. I'll do it for a few weeks if everyone wants and then if I'm crap, then someone can take over?

When is your marathon? Austin 2/16
How is training going so far? Any highlights or concerns to report? The good news is my paces have been faster overall. The bad news is my motivation was slightly lacking this week. I managed to cross off all but two miles on my plan though, so I'll take it.
What will you say in your victory speech when you cross the finish line? Hopefully I'll feel like celebrating this year instead of curling up into a ball to be carried home.
Who has had any running casualties (in memory of grk2012's pinky toenail...) this cycle? What have you done to heal up? Nothing so far.
Where have the past 17 weeks gone off to? Time has totally flown by. Name one thing that you're looking forward to that's going to happen during this marathon training cycle. I'm hoping to a) not gain weight this time around and b) finally get my sub 2:00 half in January thanks to the miles I'm putting in.
Why am I already thinking of a **next** marathon? I haven't even run my first one yet. I think I just enjoy the company too much in this weekly thread Name one race that's on your long term forecast. I entered the NYC sweepstakes, and would love to do that race one day!
How is training going so far? Any highlights or concerns to report? Training is done. I managed to resurrect my running stamina from the purgatory that is mononucleosis and cranked out 17 weeks of a hojillion miles. I don't want to say that I'm underestimating my abilities for the race, but however I finish I have a feeling that I am going to be fucking thrilled.
What will you say in your victory speech when you cross the finish line? Veni, Vidi, Vici.
In all seriousness, this started out as a tribute to my mother when I signed up for Firenze on the anniversary of her death (as an exercise on the now-deemed Tough Day). The mere idea of running 26.2 miles scared the hell out of me. I mean, Philippides friggin DIED at the end of his. But I did it to honor her never-ending tenacity and courage, and found my own along the way. I cannot thank everyone enough for their endless support, in humoring my running banter, my thousand yard stare after my long runs, the beers and other carbs kindly offered to me when all else failed, and the outpouring of love from everyone. Now, where's my grappa?!
Who has had any running casualties (in memory of grk2012's pinky toenail...) this cycle? What have you done to heal up? ::knocks on wood:: I haven't really had any big issues. I've had some whingings in my IT band and plantar fascia, but nothing I haven't been able to stretch, ice, roll, soak, etc.
Where have the past 17 weeks gone off to? Time has totally flown by. Name one thing that you're looking forward to that's going to happen during this marathon training cycle. Being DONE. Oh, something else? Being in ITALY.
Why am I already thinking of a **next** marathon? I haven't even run my first one yet. I think I just enjoy the company too much in this weekly thread Name one race that's on your long term forecast. Medoc 2015. Mark my words, H&Fers....
There is just so much to like here!! Get it, girl!!!
