Free vacation #1 is going to Orlando/Disney w/ the ILs. We dont' REALLY want to go w/ them, but it's for their 50th wedding anniversary and they are paying for everything. So... we're going. And honestly, it's the only way we can afford to do Disney anyhow. And really - it's not "Free" because traveling w/ the ILS is very frustrating. WHich we've actually only done in small doses. I'm nervous about a full week.
But anyhow - this weekend we were invited to go to Maine for a week w/ some other family. It's two sets of parents who pay for a huge house and all their kids/spouses/grandkids come. They invited us to join them. We'd gladly pay our share of the house, but the parents pay. This is their "thing" to get all the kids together. We'll pay for food, cook some meals for everyone, etc. But still - free lodging in a great house w/ a group of fun people?
Both places will be great, ECB. I bet your DS will love Disney, and seeing it through his eyes will make that trip an amazing experience, for sure.
I know DS will love it, and for that reason I am excited to go. I just know it's going to be a stressful and non-relaxing trip. Even if we build in "relaxing" days by the pool - it's just going to be stressful w/ DHs parents. But I'm going to enjoy it for DS!
And even with it being their anniversary, I KNOW FIL is looking at this as "super bonding week w/ my grandson!!!!!" and he will want to do everything with us. THANK GOD he agreed to get TWO condos, so the 3 of us will have our own space to retreat to.
Maine is just going to be a blast. I have no doubt about that.
I have a feeling you would like Downtown Disney in LA.
BOOZE.
I'm not sure enough booze could get me through anything Disney.
Downtown Disney is shopping, restaurants, and alcohol. No Disney stuff, rides, walking Mickey's, or glitzy parades. It's what rich adults do while their au pair takes their children through It's A Small World for the fiftieth time.

Had H and I been alone, it would have been fun.
Towing a two year old around DD wasn't as much fun.
