I don't currently have a Garmin, but I have wanted one that is truly waterproof that has a heart-rate monitor. As far as I am aware, that wasn't available before now.
I tried one on in the garmin store (before they were released), and it is SO LIGHT! I have a 110 currently (that is pretty beat up, wrist band is breaking), and the 220 sits much flatter on my wrist and is much less bulky. I have super tiny wrists, so I was PUMPED that it actually fit me properly. And it weighs basically nothing.

Also it's supposed to find satellites faster, and the interval timer seems like it just an alert and doesn't make a new lap for every run or walk interval.
I don't have a Garmin and it seemed like a good "middle of the road" one for my first Garmin. I have very small wrists too and wanted something that isn't too bulky.
This prompted me to look at the difference between the 220 and 620, and I think I'll be saving my birthday money for the 620 instead. I love that it uploads automatically when it's in a set wifi zone; I dislike having to connect my watch to a computer, since I rarely use one at home, and wouldn't want to do this at work.
Love of my life baby boy born 11/11. One and done not by choice; 3 years of TTC yielded 4 MMC and 2 CPs, through 4 IUIs and 2 IVFs. Focusing on making the world a better place instead...and running.

You won't be sorry. I love my 610, so I assume the 620 is surely just as awesome.

Oh good! I mean, $300 vs $450 isn't a huge leap, so why not!

I'm leaning toward the 620 for the same reason, although the price tag is making me hesitate. I currently pull runs off my Garmin every couple of weeks or so because I hate having to connect it to the computer (usually while DD tries to "type" and screams when I won't let her bang on the keyboard), and that's really not very effective for training purposes.
OP, I want a new one in general because I have a 305, which is like wearing a large brick on my tiny wrists. The new ones are sooooo much less bulky.
