I think I'm going to get DH a Garmin watch for his birthday or Christmas. He runs, including races, but he's significantly less OCD about running than I am. He's been using an app on his phone to track mileage, but I think he'd appreciate a Garmin. I don't think he needs all the bells and whistles of the super high-end models. As long as it tracks mileage and pace, I think he'll be happy. He doesn't care about a HRM.
I looked at the Garmin 10, but I think it may be a little too bare-bones, and I don't like that it only stores your last 5 runs.
I have a 110, and I think it would be a good option for him. It's only about $135 on amazon without the HRM, or I can spend $150 and get the HRM. The only thing that gives me pause is that there are newer models out now, the 210 and the brand new 220. I don't know if there's a significant difference between the 110 vs. 210 that would justify the higher price. The 220 is pretty cool, but it costs almost double, and I'm not sure if DH will use any of the additional functions. Thoughts? WWYG (what would you give)?
If I see any great black friday deals, I may jump on them, but his birthday is in early December, so I feel like I need to research and have a plan now.
I got the 210 over the 110 because I wanted compatibility with the footpod (which I don't have yet, but might get for the winter). If he does a lot of treadmill miles in the winter he might appreciate that feature. Otherwise, the 110 looked pretty similar to me. I did get the HRM because I find it helpful, and necessary for gauging effort objectively on my bike trainer in the winter.
Of course, I got my 210 right before the 220 came out so I haven't really researched that one for comparison.
I don't suppose you could give Mr. Wines your Garmin and you get an upgrade?
I thought about that, but mine is grey and pink, so I don't think he'll want to wear it. It also feels kind of non-gifty to give him my hand me down, you know? I could do it as a non-real-gift, but then there's still the fact that it's pink.
The 210 is on pre-holiday sale right now at REI for $169!
I have the 10 now, and it's perfectly fine. Even though only a few runs are on the watch, my records are always there, and I just upload weekly to Garmin Connect. Now I want a HRM, so I'm holding out for the 220.
Love of my life baby boy born 11/11. One and done not by choice; 3 years of TTC yielded 4 MMC and 2 CPs, through 4 IUIs and 2 IVFs. Focusing on making the world a better place instead...and running.

Confession: another + in the 210 column for me was the teal color:

Hahaha, well since yours is pink I'd stick with a real Garmin. I got mine at a Cyber Monday sale and it wasn't that expensive.
