Can anyone recommend an OTC face product for UV exposure?
We went to the beach this week for the first time in years. I'm in grad school, so I have literally lived in the library for the past 2 years straight (no summers off). I got sunburned on the first day, then I developed a sun poisoning rash, apparently common when you go from no sun (thank you, library) to tons of sun.
My face didn't actually get that much sun, but it still got too much and the head-to-toe rash has freaked.me.out. and made me swear off the sun forever. Any product recs to undo this most recent damage? My old standby is EL Advanced Night Repair. I do use a nightly light retinoid from Neutrogena, but I've laid off this week while my skin healed - not sure if that's the right answer or not.
PS - GoDawgs, I can just hear you telling me to go find a derm, but I'm working OOS for the summer; I'll find one when I get back to school in the fall
Edit for clarity - the burn happened 5 days ago, so I'm passed the aloe stage and looking to repair the deeper damage
I have never burned so badly that I got a rash (OUCH!), but here is what I would do (for what it is worth - if anything!)
I would definitely stop using any retinoid product. I would be very gently washing my face (and entire body if you are burnt all over) with CeraVe hydrating wash or Cetaphil gentle wash. Apply Bactarin so your skin doesn't get infected. Wear loose clothing.
Once your skin heals, I would use prescription Tretinoin to help reverse the UV damage on your face. Also, wear spf 30+ and antioxidants every day! Next time, slather on spf 30+ very often, wear a wide brimmed hat, and sit in the shade
Buy a bottle of the natural, 100% stuff. Put it in the fridge for a bit. Apply liberally all over. I don't even rub it in, just sort of slather it on and wait for it to absorb. Repeat.
Oh, I wasn't clear enough: the burn happened last Saturday, so that's 5 days ago now. I'm past the aloe stage (thank goodness!) and have moved onto trying to start correcting the deeper damage.
